Age in Place Model

I am curious as to how many of you have encountered the Age in Place model of care in senior living. I live in New York State and I don't see it much here, but it is a common model in Connecticut where my mom now lives.

Basically, it's like being in a senior living center with a combination of Independent, Assisted Living and Memory Care all in the same building. When someone needs more care, instead of moving to a new room or part of the building, you just increase the amount of care in the same room.

You can even bring in your own caregivers if you want.

My mom currently lives in a place like this, and it is nice and well run, but I can see this being problematic, if the facility doesn't monitor who is coming in and out and what a person needs.

I have worked in Long Term Care, so I understand about care planning and changes in status.

And there's no SNF at the end for people. That seems weird.

Has anyone here encountered Age in Place? What do you think of it?

My family has roots in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Staunton and Harrisonburg areas. Is this technically considered part of Appalachia? I always thought it was like, kind of on the edge of what's considered Appalachia, and it's not always included on the map.

I am currently taking an online billing and coding course with Ed2Go. I'm 3/4 of the way through. I've been passing the tests, but still don't feel completely confident in my coding skills. I feel good about the basic cases, but some of the examples that we did with more complex situations, where there's lots of different codes and modifiers, I still don't feel strong. Can anyone relate? What can I do? Besides just go back and do more of those examples in the workbook?

There is a teacher we can get in touch with through the chat, but she doesn't respond with the greatest answers. I guess that's education these days, you gotta do all your own work.

Has anyone here been a nurse and transitioned to another career? If, so, what did you go to, and what was the process like? Has anyone shifted from nursing into another healthcare role? Like social worker? Dietitian? Or what about leaving healthcare altogether?
