Im sewing a flat cap and wanted to include this decorative cord over the headband.
From looking at examples, it seems to be one singular cord that snares two shank buttons at the sides of the hat. I think that the metal clips near the buttons (there are two) are there to pull the two lengths of cord together and hide the ends inside it.
I don't have these clips in hand, is there a knot (or combination of knots) that could achieve the same result?
A seam on the back of her negligee, that connects the knit fabric (jersey, I think?) to the lace sides came undone. She says she tried to fix it herself a couple of times but her stitches wouldn't hold (she tried to do something that looked like pad stitching? The stitches were too big and had way too many knots).
Unfortunately, I don't know off the top of the head how to fix this. I have an old cast iron singer that only straight stitches (which I heard will rip if sew on stretchy & knit fabric) but I can hand-sew pretty good, I just need to know what kind of stitch I should use (and any tips on working with knits)
(The second to last picture is the original machine-made stitching, in case that helps)
Any help at all is appreciated!
I've been planning on making a pair of trousers with this 100% wool fabric, I've gone through the muslin process and I think I'm ready. But this is my first time working with wool and I'm not sure how to prepare the fabric for sewing.
I've read I shouldn't put this on a washing machine because it'll felt and maybe shrink too much. In some posts people said that you don't need to pre-shrink the wool (in that case, how would I press seams and pleats with no steam?), in others, they said I could shrink it with a damp cloth and a steam iron.
I have a dry iron and buying steam one isn't an option right now, I do have access to a hand steamer, would that do it? Should I hang it from a rack and blast it with steam?
In short, how should I handle this before cutting and sewing?
This where you can find the original text and my question pertains to sections of text found in pages 11-13 and the diagram in page 15.
So, I've been trying to make me a pair of fishtail back trousers and, through this sub, came across this text. The instructions for making the front panels (topsides, as the guide calls it) are very clear and I was able to draft a pattern to my measurements, no problem.
My issue has been with drafting the back panels (undersides), well, there have been a couple, but the big one is this: he tells us to make a line from point 21 to 22 then, pivot the line from point 22 until it reaches 23 then, project a line from 23, through 22, into 24 and THAT line (23-24) should measure "the half seat measure plus 2 inches".
Here is what confused me: he doesn't tell you how to find points 21; 22 and 23 (in Dia. 1 and Dia. 9 the 21-22 line seems to be measured at different heights) and 23-24 can't possibly be half the seat measure (+2 inches) because half the seat measure would be the entire width of your backside, both panels! How do I find points 21; 22 and 23 and what should be the length of line 23-24?
Is this a typo or am I missing something? Are these points (21; 22; 23) something so obvious he'd expect you to understand without explaining? Does "the half seat measure" mean something else?
