I grew holes into flowers

I grew holes into flowers

I turned 3 holes in/along the ribbing in my sweater into a garden. I underestimated the challenge of neat stitching in alternating ribs. Will rethink this next time I have uneven surfaces to stitch!

Mended my socks!

I'm on vacation, so I caught up on my sock mending! Some of them are turning into Theseus' socks. 😅

I knit patches rather than darning, as I really don't like darning. I use a different color each time I mend, so you can one of them is at their third fix.

The patches are noticeable the first wear, but then they flatten and meld with the sock and you don't notice them anymore.

Puppy damaged scarf repaired with houndstooth pattern!

Sometimes it’s nice to give a nod to the way the garment was damaged!

Hand embroidery on jeans.

I wanted to repair the holes while making sure the patch would be durable and wouldn't bulge or wrinkle in the creased areas.

For the embroidery, I used a homemade canvas made from ordinary cotton calico fabric. The embroidery took about a week to complete, working on it for a couple of hours each evening.

What do you think of the result?

What methods can I use that would match the style of this shirt?

I need some creative people to help me figure out how to mend this shirt in a way that looks like it was supposed to be like that!

Where do I even start?

These will probably just be worn around the house. Any recommendations welcomed.

Also, recommendations welcomed for shorts that can survive chub rub for thick girls...

Loose stitch on embroidery

Just this new pair of jeans and I seen in the picture. There is a loose stitch of obviously not gonna cut it. I know what the best way to repair it because I’m afraid to wear it out and get it snagged and unravel part of the embroidery. Who would be the best way to take care of it ? Also, since it’s a darker washing machine, should I get rid of vinegar wash first or no?

Edit: I used voice to text. That’s probably why it doesn’t make much sense when I’m trying to say.

Finished what felt like a neverending darn 😵‍💫

Started darning this wool sock in April as busywork to cope with hours and hours of dental office waiting rooms. Couldn't leave it unfinished. Many hours later here we are.

There is a mate in much the same condition. I will be patching it instead.

My first mend!

I’ve been a lurker on here for a while, and as a non-crafty person, I‘m excited to finally have something to contribute.

Last week I ordered a cheap mesh makeup bag, because I liked the design, and when it came, I failed to notice a small tear in the mesh before I ripped the tag off. I decided it wasn’t worth returning it and sending it to the landfill, and I could just try mending it instead.

The first thing I did was to plop a dollop of glue over the damaged area to prevent the tear from spreading, and wait for it to dry. My first thought was to just sew a red rectangle over it so it wasn’t bumpy and scratchy, but then I decided a red heart would look so much better.

The problem was that my sewing skills are minimal, and I cannot draw a symmetrical heart for the life of me, so my first attempts at freestyling were quick, but shit.

I had to regroup. I took a high res picture and played around with drawing the heart over it, using the mesh as a grid. This worked out perfectly on paper, but it was still a pain to translate without the help of real life zoom. It’s still not symmetrical, smh.

I messed up many, many times and had to redo a stitch or even start over a bunch of times (luckily mesh is a very forgiving medium). I kept putting off finishing because I couldn’t stand to look at it any longer, and just the thought of having to thread another needle was giving me a headache, but today I finally finished, and I’m so enamored with the end result, I think I like it even better than the original. But mostly I’m proud that I didn’t give up.

I Spilled super glue on pants need ideas

I broke a nail and tried to super glue it back on. Instead, I superglued my hands and pants. The super glue has left a weirdly shaped stain near the opening of the pants.

I'm an amateur at embroidery and struggling to think of simple ideas of what to put there without doing something too far out of my skill set.

Also, is it better to cut out the super glue, then embroider? or make a patch and sew it over?

I also want some advice on another pair of pants I'm working on I repaired a big rip under my pocket and want to add something to it. I was going to do small flowers until I realized it will look like I have flowers shooting from my butt.

Ideas to cover sharpie stains

I stained these shorts a few years back when I was working at a grocery store and had a sharpie in my pocket that opened up. I wanna do something with the stain and cover it with embroidery of some sort, but I can't think of any ideas on what to cover it with, any ideas?

Any advice on how to mend my kids wallet?

My kid got a new wallet and it broke at the first day. The shop will replace it but said to keep the broken one. I don’t want to throw it away but I’m not sure how to mend this. Maybe with a colorful patch? But I think it’ll be very difficult to sew through the fabric at the border because there’s another pocket on the back with a strong transparent plastic layer sewn into it (see the second picture). Also, what should I do about the top edge where it’s ripped out?
I would be thankful for any advice!

Pajama shorts crotch blowout fix

I considered just sewing it shut since it ripped really clean along the seam. But it would be just another deep squat away from catastrophe! So is added a gusset!

This was also an opportunity to make use of a pajama dress I've had for ages but never worn. Turns out I absolutely hate cross back camps. It takes forever to for me to put them on successfully and once on they are terribly uncomfortable. So now I'm using the beautiful pattern for patches! It's from the same company as these pants so it works out really well here.
