I strongly believe (and there is significant evidence) that our DNA was tinkered with at some point. Assuming this is so, one would wonder for what reason.

Rather than explore the cosmos, maybe we were designed to proliferate on this planet. Trying to figure out motives of an alien species would be nearly impossible, but there has to be some reason humanity came to be.
