Help me decide a phone I plan of buying this Flipkart/Amazon sale

Looking for recommendations for my first smartphone.

Budget is ideally ₹15k–25k. I will go above** ₹30k**, only if there's a genuinely exceptional deal/value. My goal is to get the best value, not simply spend more.

I'm joining college this August and plan to keep this phone for 4–5 years, so long-term usability matters more than flashy features.

My priorities are roughly (decreasing order):

  • Smooth day-to-day performance and responsiveness
  • Good processor that will age well
  • Clean software with minimal bloat
  • Good battery life
  • 256 GB storage (I'd happily pay a bit extra for this)
  • Good build quality and durability
  • AMOLED display with 120 Hz if possible

Things I don't really care about:

  • Camera (just needs to be decent for documents, friends, and occasional photos)
  • AI features
  • Premium materials/design
  • Flagship-level camera performance

My usage is mostly:

  • Calls, WhatsApp, Discord, Reddit, YouTube, Chrome, Gmail, Maps, UPI, music, and general daily use
  • Light gaming
  • No heavy gaming
  • Coding, Linux, and any intensive work will all be done on my laptop, so I don't need a gaming-focused phone.

I'm not looking for the "best phone" overall—I'm looking for the lowest-priced phone that will still feel smooth and reliable throughout my 4–5 years of college.

What would you recommend, and are there any phones I should avoid? Also, given my use case, is there any real reason not to buy a ₹12–15k Redmi/Realme/Motorola phone instead? What would I actually gain by spending ₹20–25k? I'd rather buy the cheapest phone that comfortably meets my needs than pay extra for features I won't notice.

IIIT-H CSD(DUAL DEGREE) VS BITS GOA CSE VS IIT DHANBAD MNC

please explain your reasons too? I care about most placements as every other person 😅 and also some sports and college life too, one question I have bits shows as avg of 28-30lpa for cs and iiit-h has around 32-34lpa, for a difference so little is the one year extra in thesis writing and research heavy stuff worth it? also to mention I have no particular interest in in research or higher studies but I if it means significantly better packages then yea ofc, should I even use averages for comparision?

I Have Questions Regarding IIIT-H and other college options that I have

My JEE Adv rank is 4551 and Bitsat score is 287 and IIIT-Hyderabad(UGEE Exam)- rank 64

  1. I really want to hit the gym 5 days a week and play sports. Am I going to burn out or do students actually manage a healthy routine and sleep? because I have heard a lot about the pressure and stress and IIIT-H

2)Is the social life dead? Is it just 24/7 coding and grind, or do people actually chill, have fun, and run cultural events? I don't expect IIT Bombay level fests, and also can I build soft skills/social skills too or will I become a nerd?

3)What is up with this 2.5L upfront scam?? They want the full amount by June 14, which is insane compared to JoSAA. Do they ever extend the deadline or accept a token amount because I got my result on 12th afternoon and should pay everything by 14th june 5pm.

4)Is the 5-year grind even worth it? Since I have 4-year options at an IIT (Dhanbad MnC) with an avg package of 25lpa or BITS CSE where life is way more chilled, does this extra year grind and also the hectic academic load translates to better packages because right now that's the thing I care about not higher studies or research

5)How does the SBI Scholar Loan work? What is the process for applying it? can I even apply for it it's just name's sake? If my parents pay the 2.5L out of pocket right now to save my seat, does the SBI campus bank branch fully refund that exact 2.5L back to my parents' account later?

6)My rank is 64 with that what chances do I have to get the CSD program?

7)If I pay the 2.5L now to stay safe, but later get an elite branch in JoSAA Round 1/2 and decide to leave IIIT-H, how smooth is the refund process? and they ask me to show the offer letter but how can I get offer letter under 1 week?

8)JoSAA Rounds haven't even started yet, BITSAT result isn't even released and i am already giving them up this feels so rushed 🥲
