Is it normal that my parents would lock me in the garage/backyard as a punishment?
My parents stopped doing this after I turned around 10-ish. They are supportive and caring and like an average family. They've been less involved in my life ever since I've become a teenager.
I had a normal early childhood but sometimes when my parents wanted to punish me, they would lock me in the backyard/garage and say I have to sleep there until I made up for my actions ---- by making an apology and detailing what I did wrong. I would never be locked up for more than two hours which is good. Usually I would be mad and crying so I would take time to cool down and be stubborn about not apologizing i guess? I would bang on the door and stuff to try and get in but I had to apologize to get out if I did something bad.
My parents aren't abusive but I mentioned this to someone and they had a strong reaction to it? Is this a normal practice? Is this a common thing???
