Cafe appreciation

Went to a cute new cake/bakery. And all their baked goods were so good that I had to draw a cute sketch on the spot for them.

Khokana

Plein air watercolor painting during an event at Khokana. I loved how the whole community came out and created this cozy environment. They were making Bara, Choila and other snacks and singing together.

Unpopular Opinion: I Think Su Ji Is Here More for Exposure Than Love

I could be completely wrong, and this is just my opinion, but I have a hunch that Su Ji might be on the show more for building her public profile than genuinely looking for a relationship.
From the moment she entered, she stood out from the rest of the cast. She comes across as very extroverted, bubbly, and naturally flirtatious, which feels quite different from the other contestants. Most of the cast seem visibly nervous around the people they're interested in, but Su Ji seems very comfortable talking to everyone. She makes bold moves, openly expresses her feelings, and isn't afraid to make assumptions or flirt directly. That confidence just feels a little unusual for someone who's supposedly been eternally single.
Of course, there could be other explanations. Maybe living in the UK made her more confident socially, or maybe that's just her personality. But I can't shake the feeling that she's also aware of the exposure the show brings. Since she's in a creative field where networking and visibility can really help, it wouldn't be surprising if that played a role in her decision to join.
Another thing I noticed is that her changing interests in the guys seems to be getting overlooked because Hyuk Joon's behavior has become the bigger discussion. She initially picked Jung Yun, seemed to flirt with almost everyone, and then switched to Hyuk Joon at a pretty crucial point before Sparks House, knowing it would draw attention.
I also found it interesting that we haven't really seen her build close friendships with the other women. Compared with the rest of the cast, even Jeong Eun, who joined later, there have been very few scenes of Su Ji opening up or having meaningful conversations with the girls. That could easily just be the editing, but it stood out to me.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it, and editing can completely change how someone comes across. I'm curious to see how the upcoming episodes play out before making up my mind. What do you all think?

New to Canada, starting freelance illustration work. What do I actually need to set up first (tax, invoicing, GST/HST)?

I recently moved to Canada (Ottawa), and I'm a freelance illustrator. I plan on taking on both Canadian and international clients. Trying to get my setup right before I start invoicing anyone, so I don't mess anything up down the line.

A few things I'm still unclear on:

  1. Do I need to register a business name if I'm just invoicing under my own legal name, or can I skip that step for now?
  2. For international clients, do I need to charge them GST/HST, or is that only for Canadian clients? I've read that exports/non-resident services are zero-rated but want to hear from people actually doing this.
  3. How are you all tracking income and expenses as a freelancer? I am really not good with numbers, and if there is software or an app that makes it easier, please let me know.
  4. For anyone who moved to Canada more recently, was there anything about self-employment/tax registration that surprised you or that you wish someone had told you before you started?
  5. Any accountants you'd recommend who specifically work with freelancers/artists, ideally in Ottawa?

Really just trying to avoid a mess at tax time next year. Any advice, resources, or "wish I knew this earlier" tips would help a lot. Thanks in advance.

Got lucky 🍀

Just got the Sage iPhone 17 this week, it’s so much nicer than in pictures. Then yesterday, I found this brand-new clear MagSafe case at the thrift store for $1.99. The universe said, "You've spent enough."
