Team Anthem

Because of the World Cup I’ve been getting back into football again, and because of that I’ve been seeing the differences in European fandom and North American fandom for sports team/clubs.

One of the biggest things I admire about European fandom is how much they care about their anthems. They aren’t necessarily always songs made for the team, or even through the team itself but because of fans. Obviously their are some examples in North American sports, Final Countdown and the Pistons (Or the American Dragon if you are a dork like me), The Bruins with Kernkraft 400, Sweet Caroline with the Red Sox, Sirus with the Jordan Era Bulls, The Avs and All The Small Things from their 2022 win, and the Leafs having 50 Mission Cap by the Tragically Hip(if you aren’t Canadian go listen to the song to understand why).

In North America songs are generally related to players, like Walkups in Baseball or closer entrances like Mariano Rivera, Trevor Hoffman and Hells Bells, Wild Thing, Edwin Diaz with Timmy Trumpets, Mason Miller with DMX. In hockey its goal songs, the Pens and Song 2, The Panthers using Sweetness for a while, the Flames and TNT being grafted onto all their best moments post Iggy, Chelsea Dagger,

Yet these are mostly outliers.

In European sports basically every team has a specific anthem, and some, like Chelsea and Arsenal have multiple. Chelsea have Liquidator, Chelsea Dagger, and Blue is the Colour, the Gunners have North London Forever and Never Leave Your Side, Leeds have Marching on Together, Newcastle has Going Home: Theme of the Local Hero, Man City have Blue Moon, Man United have Glory Glory Man United, West Ham have Forever Blowing Bubbles, The English National Team have Three Lions, and Liverpool has You’ll Never Walk Alone. And that’s just famous English ones, not including any other countries.

We may not have a lot of history, but we have enough success to have something that could’ve stuck with the team. Even our goal song, literally called Vegas Lights, doesn’t feel Iconic with an uppercase I. In fact the song that I associate most with the Knights is My Own Worst Enemy by Lit.

TLDR:

What song do you most associate with the Golden Knights?

Torts Not coaching well in Game 5.

I think that after game 5 we should talk about how poorly Torts coached in that game. Let’s start with the easy one, goal tending.

Hart let in 4 goals and he kept him in. I know that Hart is Torts’ guy, but after 5 straight 4 goal against games, he keeps him in instead of resting him for game 6, which is an elimination game. Why? The chances you come back are so slim and you keep in a guy who has let in 19 goals in 4 and 2/3s games? He should have rested him.

Eichal, Marner, Stone. Taking Marner away from Howden just cause Bill got hurt was dumb. We have seen time, and time again that having Marner and Eichal on the same line is a bad idea. Two pass first players on the same line with a Defensive forward like Stone hasn’t worked. You are taking playmakers away from Howden, Doro, and Barbie, and Hertl and Sissions are now mixed around. He panicked and ran a line of their best players into the ground just cause one got hurt. Another example of him not adapting well like when we lost McNabb.

This is a personal gripe, and not everyone might agree, but he did not use Smith, Dowd, and Kolesar well. They were one of the only bright spots. They Forechecked very well and put pressure on Carolina whenever they were on the ice, but they had 11, 12, and 9 minutes respectively despite their good play. Btw Kolesar had 9 minutes, Bill had 8 and he left early. They also, didn’t take any penalties like other players did.

Discipline. All the penalties. Just idiotic. The reffing was atrocious but they did not adjust to the reffing, and worse of all McNabb was lucky he got only 2 for that cross check. We take 4 penalties and they get 3 and they are all delay of games, which refs have to call. All this adds to my next point.

What the fuck happened to the PK? I know it’s Carolina finally catching fire, but we have the pest PK in the playoffs to this point and it’s falling. Feel like that’s all I need to say really.

Bashing the system against the Wall. The system stops working and it doesn’t change. It hasn’t been working well in the last few games and it’s torture to watch. The Canes play Man on Man to limit as much offence as possible and trust the goalie to stop anything that gets through. This worked on Freddie, but it’s clear it’s not working on Bussi. We can still break the Canes defense but are getting stopped when it comes to the net, and the Canes can force it the other way by beating us on board battles. The system is working for the Canes now that they have the goaltending to support the structure. Yet there has been no change. Not even when you can experiment, like being down 4-1. Which ties back to my first point about leaving Hart in.

This next one might not be on Torts but I wanted to mention it.

Hart’s biggest weakness is rebounds. He can most likely stop the first shot, but rebounds kill him. In all of the playoffs we excelled at clearing rebounds, but the last few games no one is there for the rebounds. This is on the players. But Torts is the one that needs to be telling his players to do this, and they aren’t.

Torts did not adjust or adapt well to any situation and the play suffered for it. We need to be honest and talk about how his coaching is affecting games. What do you think?

With the Colorado Avalanche’s Elimination, a Presidents Trophy winner has not won a Stanley Cup since the 2012-13 Chicago Blackhawks.

The last Presidents Trophy winner to win the Stanley Cup was the 2012-13 Blackhawks during the shortened season due to the owners locking out the players. Meaning it’s been 13 years since that feat was accomplished.

The last Presidents Trophy winner to win the Stanley Cup in a season that was not shorten was the 2007-08 Detroit Red Wings. Meaning it has been 18 since that feat has been accomplished in a non shortened season.

Torts has his guy. He has had Carter Hart since Philly and I get that, so I’m making this post as an expression of an idea I highly doubt will actually happen.

I’d like to clarify I don’t want Hart to not start a game in round 2. I simply want a new look in net for at least one game of round 2 like how Buffalo started with UPL and went to Lyon, and probably what Colorado will do with Wedgewood and Blackwood after Game 1 of their series with the Wild.

Hart has been shaky in net with a 2.72 GAA, which is third worst coming out of the first round behind Dostal(who faced the Olilers so we can’t really count that as accurate) and UPL who lost the starting spot to Alex Lyon.

Hart has a .898 save percentage which once again third worst after the second round being beaten only by Dostal and UPL. And that was against the team with the 8th best Goal Differential in the league(13th best Goals For, 6th best Goals Against)

Ill admit Hart looked good in Game 6(besides giving up his usual shitter goals) I think at the beginning of the second round you give Adin Hill at least one game to see where he is at compared to Hart. Hill has not played since April 9th(Vimy Ridge day for any fans out there), and giving him a Home Game that is early in the series with lower stakes is a great way to give him a start against a team with the 19th best Goal Differential(10th best Goals For, 29th Best Goals Against).

As I said earlier I doubt this will happen cause Torts has his guy, but…
Do you think starting Hill for either Game 1 or 2 is a good Idea?
