So, I finally decided to optimize, rebuild, reorganize and scale my main base (WIP still)
Hey! In my previous posts I've built a new sub-base to produce Steel Beam, Steel Pipe and Encased Industrial Beam (visible far back on the 1st screenshot) in great amount and quite optimized. That was my first ever try at building something vertical with hidden under-floor logistics and all that jazz, it sure took a lot of time.
60 hours in. Before starting to produce electronics (already setup steady plastic and rubber production but nothing to deliver it to the main base) I decided reorganize, scale this mess you see on the 1st and 2nd screenshot. So that I can better picture where I want to put a train station.
Ngl, I didn't have any ideas, I just stood on top of a tower for like 5-10 min and was looking at all this mess and thinking where do I even start and how... So, just tried to start anything at all and ended up building random logistics floor for an impure iron node and tried to think from there...
But before long I quickly realized that foundation levels were all different around the place cuz, a long time ago, I tried to avoid stones, grass and all that and built lots of 1m ramps - and that really messes up everything else I try to do from here. So the first goal became trying to get everything to one level. And maaan... what a pain it was to tear apart most of the already working production chains. I felt physical pain moving all the stuff from those storage containers to different locations.
The screenshots show the steps I took to scale that production line that was using the impure iron node.
I put a Mk.2 Miner there (overclocked with 2 power shards) to get 120 iron ore/min, followed by 4 Smelters and 4 Constructors above them (some overclocked). Before, it was 60 iron ore/min taking roughly the same amount of space.
As I finished this lil' project and was wrapping up my playing session for now I decided to connect it to two Assemblers and produce Rotors and Reinforced Iron Plates (which I’ve already been producing, but less efficiently and slower 🥴).
Now, I honestly have zero idea where all that will connect and how, but I’m just glad it looks a little bit tidier and does more.
Next, I’m going to tackle another iron node nearby (I used to use two iron nodes for everything iron related, now just one node does what two were doing before). I have zero idea what the end goal looks like. For now I’m just trying to scale and optimize what I already have, adding some verticality and tidying the mess, and then I’ll think from there. Might not be the best plan, but I can’t plan too much ahead and lack imagination 😔
One thing I’m also going to try is using Blueprints. I feel like I’m repeating certain steps that I can just reuse. Also, merging outputs into a single faster conveyor and then connecting manifold-style to Constructors or other buildings looks like something interesting to try in the process and maybe blueprint it as well.
Thanks for reading and the comments!
