What's your favorite retcon in the series?

A lot of people talk about retcons they don't like, such as Oblivion being very different from previous Cyrodiil lore. But what are some changes they made that improved on the original, in your opinion?

I really expected something crazy from it, but compared to Playful Darkness it was a pushover. It couldn't hit my Knight Commander except on a nat 20.

Even after upping the difficulty from Core to Unfair, it was only a challenge because I refused to use Trick Fate. If I had used that spell, it would have been trivial.

Idk, I just expected to be forced to be a bit more creative, like I was with Playful Darkness.

My heart was beating so fast at the end there. I was going for the Ascension ending, but didn't look up a guide (all I knew was I had to shoot Demon Lords with Midnight Bolts), so I had no idea if I'd actually managed it. But I did! I'm very happy. Areelu and my KC saw eye to eye on a lot of things, so I'm glad I could actually join her.

I played a Feyform Shifter Trickster focusing on the Mobility Trick 2. making use of the +35 speed and full Sneak Attack progression you get from the Class. My party was a Glaive-wielding mounted Seelah, Woljif and Nenio built as you'd expect (Sneak Attack debuffer/DPS that was also my Arcane buffer and a save or suck Illusion caster), Daeran as a Summoner/blaster/buffer with the Nature mystery and the fire spell granting Ring (the save bonus to Animals is very good when I have 4 Animal Companions lol), and Lann as a Tandem Executioner Hunter 16/Zen Archer 4 making use of the Boar Companion and the Snap Shot Feats to be a solid tank.

My favorite part of the game was Drezen. That dungeon was incredible. I really liked the Last Sarkorians's content as well. I've only played 2 CRPG's, and I think I preferred Divinity Original Sin 2 a bit, but to be fair I finished this one but not that one. So maybe I did like WOTR better, idk.

The hardest part of the game was the Shield Maze. Probably because I was pretty inexperienced at that point. I bought this game because I got bored and read the D&D 3.5e PHB, and I wanted to play a modern game in the system (ik Pathfinder is different but close enough), so I knew the basic mechanics, but definitely still struggled at first. I also looked up a lot of puzzle solutions over the course of the run. The Heart of Mystery was probably the worst one.

[I tried to write how I RP'd my character here, but I couldn't find a way to make it concise. Sorry. Basically they started out selfish and joined the Crusade for Mythic Power (desiring immortality and freedom from fear), commanding the Crusade just because they found it to be fun. But in Act 4 they saw how sad and pathetic Demons are, and became a lot more committed to ending the Worldwound. They started to get more serious, but I had them stay on the Trickster Path because it has way more interesting mechanics than Legend or Gold Dragon. But they didn't really like how Drezen turned out in Act 5, we were always more interested in the Socobenoth side of Trickster and thought the Thaberdine side wasn't funny. They did their best to make all their friends happy (including the Evil ones. This character doesn't care much about people who aren't their friends), and I think I managed to get a good ending for every companion? It was very close with Regill though, I was one failed Skill Check away from the whole Hellknight Outpost turning on me.]

I romanced Daeran (literal prince charming, he's irresistible).

Oh, and I'm the type to rest as little as possible and always explore everything, so I had no trouble with Sadistic Game Design. This is also the reason I have so many hours... I'd reload until I saw every outcome of each quest and dialogue tree. If you're curious, I progressed through the game like this: October 1st finished the prologue, October 16th finished Act 1, November 3rd finished Act 2, beat Ivory Sanctum December 1st, finished Act 3 December 20th, finished Act 4 March 16th (I got pretty burnt out here), and beat Act 5... today, April 27th.

I want to do a 2nd playthrough at some point, I think as a pure evil Demon Witch who does the abusive romance with Sosiel I heard about. But beating the game today made me a lot more tired than I thought it would. I need to rest, lol. I'll stick to Slay the Spire 2, Overwatch, and replaying Majora's Mask (all 3 are peak btw) for a while.
