Built a calorie tracker using USDA/UK/FAO data — looking for honest feedback from people tired of bad food logging

Hey everyone — been frustrated by inconsistent calorie/nutrition data in trackers, so a small project was built to pull authoritative sources (USDA, UK databases, FAO) and make barcode scanning and prepared‑meal logging more accurate.

What it does:

  • Accurate source data: uses official nutrient tables so values match standards.
  • Easy logging: barcode scanning + manual entry for homemade meals.
  • Compare products: side‑by‑side nutrition comparisons to pick better options.

Looking for feedback, not a sales pitch:

  • If you track calories, what errors frustrate you most? (wrong serving sizes, missing brands, poor barcode matches, etc.)
  • What single feature would make you keep using a calorie tracker for months?
  • If you tried similar apps, what made you stop using them?

If people want to try or see demos, feel free to ask and the link can be shared privately — otherwise happy to discuss features, data sources, or design choices here.

Thanks for any honest thoughts.

Tired of guessing? How I finally started making smarter food choices with real nutrient data.

Hey everyone,

I've been on a personal journey to improve my health and nutrition, and like many of you, I struggled with accurate calorie tracking and making informed decisions at the grocery store. It felt like I was constantly guessing, and frankly, a lot of the available tools out there either had unreliable data or were just too complicated.

frustrated by bad food data, so made a tiny app that logs prepared meals, scans barcodes and shows side-by-side nutrient facts using USDA/UK/FAO sources. No hype — just accurate numbers. Would love 5–10 minutes of your feedback if you’re into tracking or meal prep. Ask me anything about the data or how it works.
