Old school villian

I got a chance to watch the movie Hard boiled (1992) the other night and I want to know why more people don’t dress like 90s Chinese villains anymore? Every scene had a new suit, there was so much color, even the foot soldiers where dressed sharp. I need to recreate these looks

Any new games?

Not sure if this sub is still active or not.. but I’m here for work till December and wanted to see if anyone had plans to start a game soon. I’ve been wanting to learn how to play but haven’t really found the opportunity.

Tailgate question

So with all these tailgaters, is there a permit you have to buy to be able to setup in these parking lots? Or is it a first come situation? I’m working on the construction site on South quad and I’m fascinated by the dedication they have. I just curious to how this all works.

What’s your slept on series?

What’s a series that you feel doesn’t get much attention? Something you wish more people would talk about.
Mine would be the Scythe Series by Neil Shusterman.

Man has created an AI system (non-violent) that makes the world run so much better and has made humans virtually immortal. People can have their bodies repaired, they can be revived, and reset their bodies to a certain age. These resets give people the opportunity to have more children each time. With the immortality comes over population, enter the Scythedom. They are an organization that essentially culls the population to an acceptable number. They are overseen by a council and governing body to make sure the numbers are acceptable. Each scythe is given a so called quota and have to maintain this until they decide to retire. They are seen somewhat as celebrities in most cases and hold high levels of influence and power.
The series follows 2 MCs that have been taken into an apprenticeship under a well known scythe but only one can become a full fledged member of the Scythedom. It’s such a fun series, it’s YA but it has pretty dark tones. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a new series to get into. I’m not doing it any service by my description but it’s worth the read.

Looking for A creature feature horror

I’m looking for suggestions for a Creature feature horror. I do enjoy the native stories of the Skinwalker and Wendigo so that would be fun. I like a predator stalking prey theme but I do enjoy an ancient evil situation as well. So please help me add to my TBR pile.

Someone’s request

Someone had a post up asking for series suggestions that were only 2-3 books long saying they were wanting to start another and were fans of LOTR and GOT along with some others I forgot.
I got all excited and wrote a long response only to have the post removed by the moderator for some dumb reason and I put in a lot of effort with my response. So if you’re out there I have this whole thing to say in response of your question.

The Godkiller series by Hannah Kaner (3 books)
Gods and humans have had their war and another is bubbling near the surface. It’s a good series on how Gods and man couldn’t exist on the same plain because one always wants more from the other. MC is a Godkiller tasked with eradicating problematic Deities and they find their way into a found family situation with a retired night who’s now a baker, a orphaned noble’s daughter, and the God of white lies. It’s been a really good series and I will always suggest it to someone who’s looking for a good series to enjoy.

The bloodsworne saga by John Gwynne (3 books)
It’s a Norse mythology adjacent story where the Gods drove themselves to extinction and now there’s a power hungry cult is looking to revive the Dragon God who is an absolute terror. The story follows a few different characters but the one I enjoy the most is the mom looking for her son who was taken by said cult. She is a beast, think Laufey from the new God of war. It’s a really good series, the books are long but great

The Scythe series by Neal Shusterman (3 books)
Humans have created a super intelligent (non-aggressive) AI system that helps run the world. It’s so advanced it’s made humans practically Immortal. You can be healed, built back together, and revived. They also can de-age themselves back to their 20s is wanted, so old age is no issue. But with the immortality comes over population. So this system of “Scythes” has been implemented to help curb the world’s population. The world sees scythes as a type of well respected celebrity. They are governed by a council that oversees the numbers of those culled, the council also appoints new scythes. The MCs are a young guy and women who are taken in as apprentices under a well known scythe. He’s teaching them the trade and the guy MC branches off and gets taken in by another evil scythe and his whole villain arc starts after being treated like shit.

Im not doing these books much a service by my explanations but they are all great. The Scythe series is my favorite series of all time, it’s so well written and the plot is amazing.
With you being a fan of LOTR and GOT you’ll probably enjoy the Bloodsworn saga the most. John Gwynne is such a good author and he has a lot of other series with similar themes. It’s a fun world he’s built.

[Request] could you pick up a cow?

I was having a conversation about old school strength and this came up. Not sure of the validity of the cooler talk conversation but I was told that’s how they use to “work out” back in the Roman times (their words)

If you were to pick up a newborn calf everyday multiple times, how long would it take to not be able to pick it up again? When would the growth rate of the cow overtake the growth rate of the human muscle?

High level bots?

Playing my clan battles and my team is winning then about half through take a nosedive and loses. Looking at the stats I’m seeing level 300+ with 0 kills and 13 deaths… WTF is happening? Are these just high level bots?
