I’m new to field recording and I’m looking to buy one of these and wonder which is better. I’m mostly looking something that’s portable and I can just carry around in my bag and sounds good with the built in mics and mic preamps. I would likely just be using it handheld and I know the M4 is meant to have low handling noise but does anyone have any experience with these and could give any advice on which to choose?

For context I plan to get a push 3 standalone for live looping and I want weird vocal effects on my voice, specifically effects like distortion pitch shifting, auto tune, vibrato etc. should I get something like the obne maw and go down the vocal pedal route it looks perfect for what I wanna do except it has no auto tune, or should I run my vocals through the push and use abletons plugins?

I plan to convert my garage into a live room inspired by Steve Albini’s basement studio. My garage is 16x13x7.5 feet and I know small rooms can be problematic acoustically although Steve is quite vocal about his approach to recording and would prefer to make due with the room he had before he used any reverb effects or plugins and I plan to follow his approach. I plan to close mic every drum and use mid/side recording instead of overheads and stereo room mics but I worry my room is too small to achieve a good sounding drum reverb.

Would anyone with a knowledge of acoustics know if this is possible? I don’t want to deaden the room but could a this be achieved easier with a few bass traps and diffusers or is my room a lost cause?

The specific sound I’m trying to create is when you have the pitch knob on the rainbow machine just slightly above noon essentially a slap delay that goes just out of tune but it is the only effect I find useful in the rainbow machine and the boss PS3 mode 4 in theory sounds like it does the same thing with many more sounds. Would anyone know how close or different these pedals would sound as I really want this effect.
