So A CBS Studios Exec In A Pissing Contest With Their New Boss Is What Actually Cancelled Trek

People are quoting this Deadline article out of context a lot and saying how it's a "no news" comment when they say expanding Trek is imperative to them, but if you read the whole thing and not just the questions pertaining to Star Trek, there's a lot being said between the lines.

-When Wiseman was brought in, she immediately directed Paramount+ to commission a major expansion of the Trek franchise (as well as other non-Trek stuff). Instead, CBS Studios cancelled SNW at the then-height of its popularity.

-When P+ then said they wanted to go after white space segments ("White Space" being the old radio term for unused and undeveloped segments in their programming) including female-forward YA dramas, shows starring strong female ensemble casts, and action shows that appeal to both men and women (like Lioness), CBS Studios instead developed a YA show starring a male lead with Starfleet Academy that was just as much an action-comedy as it was a YA drama. It also never commissioned a strong female cast or action show.

-When P+ said they're pulling out of original sitcoms in favor of doing next-day streaming of linear TV sitcoms, CBS Studios instead commissioned scripts for that Risa sitcom from Tawny Newsome that never got made - despite the show having never been greenlit, no less.

-When P+ said they want so much new Trek ASAP that they're even taking offers from other studios, CBS Studios instead put an end to working on Trek with Kurtzman and, as far as we know, haven't entered or even entertained the idea of entering an agreement with any other production companies to work on anything related to Star Trek.

-When asked outright what the plan for Trek is, she didn't give a non-answer, she said that they're leaning heavily on CBS Studios to get stuff out NOW. That's not something you tell a member of the press! That's the corporate diplomatic way of saying "if Bob from accounting doesn't get me his TPS report by the end of the day, he's out of a job!"

This doesn't sound like Paramount wants less Trek, so much as CBS Studios being pissed that Wiseman was put in charge of Paramount+. I'm now very optimistic about a new Star Trek show coming sooner than we expect it to, but also very pessimistic about how good its first season will be due to how they're clearly going to rush into pre-production and through the production and post-production in order to recover from CBS Studios dropping the ball so hard.

Gen Con Exclusives Likely To Be Sold/Given Away At FUNDA Expo Montreal In September

EB Games Canada and Collectr have teamed up with a LOT of big brands to launch a new Canadian convention called Funda Expo that's poised to be the country's largest card game, video game, toys, and board game convention from a collectibles standpoint. McFarlane Toys, DC Multiverse, Funko, Mattel, and Hasbro are all promising to have exclusives and some will also be making new product reveals.

I'm fully expecting most of Hasbro's exclusives to be their Hasbro Pulse and convention exclusives (meaning nothing new across any of their brands). However, to my knowledge, all their bestselling collectible games are through Avalon Hill, so it's likely they'll have the same con exclusive items that they had at Gen Con.

The convention will be held September 11-13 at Montreal's Windsor Station, so the fact that they opted for that venue tells me they're anticipating only around 10,000 people for the inaugural edition. Just my luck that I'm at another con that weekend. The FOMO is hitting me hard.

What Did AH Reveal In Their Gen Con Panel?

Avalon Hill's socials teased when their panel was about to begin on the Saturday at Gen Con, but didn't share any highlights during or after the fact. Does anybody know what was revealed in it? I'm assuming primarily Sanibel, Guillotine, and Dracula, but would be cool if someone could tell us what was mentioned about Heroquest.

Avalon Hill Teases Boxes Of "MISC" Heroquest Products For GenCon

Avalon Hill's social media (Instagram) posted how they were prepping for GenCon by showcasing stacks of sealed brown product distribution boxes filled with stuff and sticker-coded in one of for ways. The four codes are:

Red = "Reserved for GENCON LIBRARY"
Green = "Reserved for MISC"
Blue = "Reserved for PAID DEMO"
Yellow = "Reserved for GIVEAWAY"

The only box labeled red is for Betrayal At House On The Hill and it's not possible to see which game(s) has the yellow label, but all their major games are listed as blue, with there being both boxes containing Heroquest and Heroquest First Light.

I'm most intrigued by the stacks of green labels. All of them (except for one Betrayal At House On The Hill box) were for the Heroquest base game.

Each box was labeled as being made in Vietnam, with the blue-labeled First Light boxes being listed as containing "4 PCS" and the blue-labeled base game boxes containing "1 PC". It's not possible to tell how many pieces are in the green-labeled boxes, but they are all labeled for the base game and appear to be the same size as the blue-labeled base game boxes.

Is the Macros Pluss Movie Edition Blu-Ray from All The Anime Coming To Canada/US?

I know you can order it here and simply have it shipped, but it ends up being rather expensive after the shipping + exchange rate. I'd much rather buy it from a local shop or even Amazon Canada/US.

More Delthrak Dice Sets Were Available At UKGE

Saw a few posts on Instagram today with people showing off all the con exclusives they picked up at UKGE this year. For Heroquest stuff, most were showing off the dreadshifters (or rather, the boxes that we know contained dreadshifters) and/or WoM, but some also had Jungles of Delthrak dice sets.

Weren't the dice sold out? Did AH just keep leftovers from previous cons or something?

Did anybody find something else that was new?

Which Products Were Unique To/Debuted On Hasbro Pulse?

EB Games Canada is the exclusive Hasbro Pulse Premier Partner. This means the only retail stores in the world where you can buy any and all Hasbro Pulse exclusives at retail (and Hasbro convention exclusives) will be through EB Games Canada locations. You can also go through EB Games Canada to get the perks of being a Hasbro Premium member without having to pay for a Hasbro Premium account (though I suspect this will be more tedious than if you just had a Hasbro Premium account and apparently Hasbro Premium members can get access to advanced preorders through EB Games Canada). You'll also be able to purchase HasLabs exclusives through them (which is huge news because for some reason they always excluded Quebec residents from participating in HasLabs campaigns - hence why I don't own a Mythic Tier set).

This got me thinking: what Hasbro Pulse items were there for Heroquest? I know the gender-swapped heroes debuted as the Heroic+Mythic Tier's "Pulse Bonus" minis and that the online quests are via Hasbro Pulse, but were any of these actually for sale at any point on Hasbro Pulse? Did any Heroquest product make their initial debut through Hasbro Pulse? Was it ever possible to purchase a con exclusive item through Hasbro Pulse?

What Are You Predictions For What's Next?

I'm expecting the next expansion pack to be both a sequel to Wizards of Morcar and either a prequel or sequel to Crypt of Perpetual Darkness. My reasoning here is based on (WoM spoiler: >!the prologue to WoM having Zargon explain that Grawshak is helping him with something in the South)!< and how CoPD takes place while >!the Southern region is in the middle of an occupation from Zargon forces!<.

I'm expecting all this to be teased at Gen Con, especially with the new con exclusive quest, but I'm also expecting UK Games Expo to introduce some more First Light alt-skin variants and maybe some Wizards of Morcar-themed variants (maybe alt-skin Ragnar?). I feel like there will also be some sort of collectible involving Hopekins Rest.

New Con Exclusive Quest Will Debut At Gen Con 2026.

Avalon Hill's Gen Con 2026 events are up. There will be two (recurring all throughout the con) for Heroquest: Wizards of Morcar played on the Game System, and a new con exclusive quest from Doug Hopkins played on First Light.

I'm very surprised by this (and obviously very happy). I figured they would just replay Dread On The Horizon since it's a prequel to WOM. Seems like an obvious upsell. I'm curious if it will be a pure standalone or if it's setting up an upcoming expansion.

Does Anybody Have An Authentic Photo Of The Questbook That Contained The Maze?

I'm trying to collect physical copies of all quests that Stephen Baker made or at least consulted on. This means I'm after a printed copy of The Maze. I've seen people selling the 1989 questbook, but I've also seen several versions of said questbook, meaning people are clearly selling bootlegs.

Does anybody have a picture of the actual questbook so I can protect myself from bootleggers?

You Can't Drink In The Bahamas On May 12 - Even At Cocoa Cay

The Bahamas is suspending alcohol from 8:00am to 6:00pm on May 12 during their election. This will also extend to private islands like Cocoa Cay. Two Oasis-class ships are docked that day.

I'm not cruising this month so I'm not impacted, but I'm curious if anybody who is on the Symphony or Wonder that day have been told what will happen. I'm especially curious regarding how they're handling the drink package that day.

What Cons Do Avalon Hill Attend?

I saw Avalon Hill's Instagram reshare someone's post about the influencer was going to be playing First Light at a UK con at the end of May and it got me wondering which cons AH attends.

Are we expecting any reveals prior to Gen Con?

A ship's X-axis is parallel to the galactic plane, its Y-axis is perpendicular, and the Z-axis is parallel to the stellar plane. Makes sense, but how do ships orient themselves along the Z-axis in instances when there's no stellar plane (like when the ship is outside of a solar system) or when the plane is also parallel or perpendicular to the galactic plane?
