Jason Segel is not afraid of the ‘dirty underneath’ : Fresh Air

“Segel returns to talk with Terry Gross about his Emmy-nominated series Shrinking, in which he plays a therapist who suffered a nervous breakdown in the wake of his wife’s death. Segel opens up about his own therapy, acting opposite Harrison Ford, and overcoming writer's block. He thinks of his vulnerability as a super power. "I'm kind of devoid of pride or shame about the dirty underneath. I'll say the stuff that a lot of people are trying to hide." Segel wrote and starred in the hit comedy film Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and played David Foster Wallace in The End of the Tour. “

Cory Doctorow talks about AI on The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart

From the episode description:

“With billions pouring into AI based on its promises, Jon is joined by Cory Doctorow, author of “The Reverse Centaur's Guide to Life After AI,” to separate the hype from reality. Together, they examine how the AI industry relies on inflated expectations, question what AI can genuinely do and whether that even matters when selling a product, and explore how the technology is supercharging problems already embedded in our society, including surveillance, labor exploitation, and corporate consolidation.”

Tim talked to Stuart Stevens yesterday about the ICE killing in Houston

Here’s a conversation between Joyce Vance and and Juan Proaño, the head of LULAC discussing the killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo by ICE agents. LULAC is like the NAACP, but works for the Latino community. He discusses what happened after Araujo was killed and how poorly the family was treated as they tried to get information about their father. It’s a conversation worth listening to, and Proaño provides ways folks can support the family and the larger community.

Sam and Will talking about cults this morning

I don’t know if anyone on the Bulwark staff monitors these posts but can someone alert them to the Cult, Culture, and Coercion substack and YouTube pages? He knows all about cults, and may have even done a segment on the cult Sam and Will were talking about today in their MAGA Mondays episode.

YouTube link for folks who would prefer to view his work there: https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7YWEmQ5oJH19Y3LZhJoTFdAPbDxdJY\_f

Andy Borowitz interviewed Laura Nix, the director of this film, on his substack post today.  To watch the documentary for free, you’ll have to sign in (to stay abreast of future updates about the film).  It is free through May 4.

“ A feature documentary directed by Laura Nix
in collaboration with Ann Telnaes.

Acclaimed editorial cartoonist Ann Telnaes offers a razor sharp critique of American political hypocrisy. Can the nation preserve its democratic ideals, or will it fall prey to an authoritarian takeover? “

“The UAE understands it possesses immense leverage to renegotiate the terms of its alliance with its senior partner. The swap line conversation is therefore not a plea for help, but a reminder that the UAE has options — and the means to use them.”

“The president’s second son pitches his [digital currency] company as a money-printing machine. It’s actually an arbitrage vehicle that preys on MAGA-minded investors.”

I wonder if anyone will tell the average American [digital currency] investors?
