Adult Maka Concept: Death's Angel
With all the talk of adult versions of the cast the past few days, this thought crawled into my head and I had to get it out. I had the idea of Maka getting a serious reputation for her abilities as a three star meister and specifically, she may become known as an 'angel' due to her grigori soul. I will explain some of my justification and thoughts with headcanon, but first I want to present this visual for you.
I previously said I picture an adult maka as a teacher, she may get glasses or reading glasses later in life, I think it would be a good look for her but i dont think she'd actually NEED them all that much if at all. She'd likely maintain the same strict style but mature it a little. So still wearing a tie and a button down but instead of the long cloak opting for more like a cardigan and a medium length flowing skirt and biker shorts, shes a highly mobile meister shes not wearing dress pants or anything. I also cant see her in heels, I think she might try them occasionally but shed probably hate the instability and stick with sneakers into adulthood. I also picture her dropping the pigtails for maybe a braid. But most importantly, I think an adult Maka might master her grigori soul and learn to manifest wings allowing her to fly and have much higher mobility in combat. Also, if Soul is often wrapped up working for Kid, then Maka would have to get good fighting on her own, and I think a 3Star Maka would certainly be capable of doing so. She doesn't need a demon weapon if she has a book. So I offer scenario to you, in which some foolish ruffians find themself harassing someone in the wrong place at the wrong time, as they see Maka hovering in the sky with those sharp wings of light behind her (I imagine shed give up on fluffy wings eventually)
"Those wings... is that... DEATH'S ANGEL!?"
"Oh no, I heard she'd be trained in Lord Death's secret art..."
"What horrible technique could that be?" -MAKA CHOP-
So with all that fun visualization out of the way, I want to do some headcanon stuff since i am after all THAT nerd. Primarily I will be justifying Maka reaching a terrifying level of strength and being able to manifest wings and i will be doing so by analyzing what i think the star rankings for meisters REALLY mean.
So all meister weapon pairs we've seen seemingly are 1 star meisters who have already learned to perform soul resonance, this means that a one star meister should at the very least be able to resonate their soul with one weapon.
We don't know much about how the ranking system is designed but we can identify that the group was only promoted to 2 star after the baba yaga mission, which begs the question why? What did they all do there that was different? Well I propose that the reason is that this was their first successful mission as a unit and after mastering Chain Resonance. Chain Resonance is the technique they're all taught as 1 star meisters that involves meisters resonating with multiple people. While we know more 2 star meisters we cannot clearly identify any other connected reasons, but it makes sense with the connections I will continue to make.
Because lastly we have 3 star meisters and we are only told two characters explicitly are 3 star meisters: Sid Barret and Frank Stein. What do these two have in common? Incredible combat ability without needing a weapon. But I think theres more to it than that, both exhibit higher level abilities that most characters do not display without the assistance of a weapon and they can perform more impressive abilities WITH weapons. Sid is the first one we see and is a bit of a strange one as one of his strange abilities is effortlessly moving through the ground, but also clearly being able to amplify his strength and speed, I suggest this is a form of 'soul amplification' similar to what we see with Justin. From Stein we also see the depth and power of Soul Menace as well as advanced Soul perception. I would like to argue that three star meisters are expected to show a certain level of proficiency in four areas: Solo combat. Soul Perception, Soul Menace, and Soul Amplification. The idea being a 3 star meister is only truly a threat when they do not need a weapon. Likewise, if stage one is resonating with one weapon, and stage 2 is resonating with other meisters, then it seems sensible that stage 3 is resonating WITH YOURSELF: harnessing your soul abilities for enhanced senses, enhanced abilites, and direct soul manipulation in physical form. We see Stein take this last one to the extreme with soul sutures, but we also see a lesser extent from Gowther who also learns to manifest wings. As such, if we do say a 3 star meister would need to learn these abilities, I think a badass Maka with wings is very believable.
But what do you think, do you think this is a believable idea? Do you want to draw it? LOL It's fun thinking about how the characters could become and I just needed to get this idea out.
