I purchased this Scar build-a-bear today on eBay I’ve been wanting for some time but I’m a little uncertain on what to do about washing him (I’m aware he looks clean but I always wash second hand plushies just to be safe) and about possible repairs once I get him.

He has a sound box in the paw which the seller says no longer works due to age. Is it possible for the sound box to be repaired (eg: battery replacement, if a dead battery is the issue) and still retain the old sound?

If the sound box is unrepairable, then is it okay for him to be washed with the sound box inside?

I’ve heard that you can take build-a-bear plushies to their stores and ask for the sound box to be removed, but I probably won’t be able to visit my nearest store for some time due to exams and work. I’m not sure if it’d be a better idea to wash him once I get him (assuming it’s okay to wash with the non-working sound box inside) or wait until I can visit the store.

I don’t really trust myself with ripping the seam and sewing him back up but I would be willing to give it a try (with the help of some tutorials 😭) if thats a better idea.

What do you guys think? Any advice and help is much appreciated, thank you!

As someone’s who’s always loved the movie but never had the chance to get any plushies of the characters when I was younger, I’ve been wanting to get a plush of Scar for sometime and have been eyeing up this plush in particular.

However, every time I’ve checked over the last few weeks, it’s continually said it’s out of stock. Weirdly, it also won’t show up when searching directly on the site and only shows up via a link to the Disney store on Google, I’ve noticed.

Does anybody know if this plush is retired/out of production? I know some sites still retain the pages for retired products despite them not being purchasable so I thought it best to double check by asking.

If it is out of production, then where might be best to go looking for it? While I have had a brief look myself, I’m also open to suggestions for other Scar plushies if anybody has any to suggest!
