sometimes, i wonder if losing me felt like relief.

it's strange how a person can disappear from your life and still remain in so many of your thoughts.

more than a year has passed since i last heard from you. i suppose i should have gotten used to it by now. and some days, i do. but there are times when my mind likes to wander and think about what could have been. sometimes, i discover a new song and think of you - think about how you might find it to your liking. dancing and the beach still remind me of you. on late nights, it catches me off guard - the memory of our conversations, how you danced with your words, the so-called chaos we found so tempting, how it all flowed just so... naturally between us. i still remember the comfort i felt knowing there was someone from the other side of the world who understood.

i don't spend my days waiting for a message anymore. life moved on, and so did i. but i'd be lying if i said it didn't take me a long while to get used to the silence. and every now and then, a thought still slips through.

i wonder if losing me felt like relief. i wonder if the silence that hurt me brought you peace. i wonder if losing our conversations made your life lighter. i wonder if the absence i felt so deeply was something you barely noticed at all.

there are moments i reread our old conversations letters in my memory, and wonder whether i imagined the connection. whether the things that felt meaningful to me were only passing moments to you. whether i was holding a chapter you had already finished reading.

despite everything, despite the time that passed, i still remember you with kindness. and sometimes, i wish a part of me knew whether i mattered as much to you as you did to me.

but i guess some questions should remain unanswered. like whether you eventually discovered how to spot the perfect honeydew, whether bagel girl still makes the most delicious bagels, whether you still go to your favourite beach.

i think that's what this letter is - one topsy-turvy, jumbled mess... and a place to put the questions down.

a place to admit that once upon a time, i cared deeply for someone. and that even after all this time, there are days when i miss the person i thought i knew.

i hope you are well. i hope you are happy.

and i hope that if losing me did feel like relief, then at least having known you was never something i regret.
