How Powerful was Luke Skywalker and what made him so much better than any previous Jedi?

What brings me to ask this question is mainly Vader himself because Darth Vader is basically a God compared to most of the verse in his era and not just anyone could beat him so for Luke to be able to overpower him like in ROTJ then hes clearly stronger even IF Vader was conflicted or holding back
