Early year low km's or late year higher km's

Hey guys,

Currently on the lookout for an Xterra and was wondering on the consensus of reliability of the early gen 2 vs facelift years?

I'm been seeing a few low mileage early years, and some higher'ish later years but not many low km facelifts besides highly overpriced ones. I understand that the refresh years solved the timing chain teeth and smod, but is that really enough of a reason to skip out on a clean early year?

Basically, if you hypothetically had the choice between a pristine 2005 with 80k kms or a 2012 with 180k kms (yeah ik it's not **that** high but still long enough to live a life of use) for the same price what would you pick?

Adventure Vehicle

Hey everyone,

I'm currently in the market for a car with the following preferences. Was wondering if I could get some input or recommendations.

- 20k cad max budget

- Located in Canada

- Roadtripping vehicle

- Can reasonably comfortably fit 2 people (both 5'7") in the back with seats folded down. Happy to build a platform or something if needed

- Have developed an interest in offroading and overlanding. I can't see myself doing anything extreme any time soon, but would like to explore FSR's and go off track a little, so I think I'd like a 4x4.

- I understand these types of vehicles aren't real fuel efficient but I'd prefer something with at least around 15 mpg.

Seems the popular choices are the 4Runner and Xterra which both are pretty high demand vehicles and touch to find in good condition or lower mileage. The Sequoia seemed like a decent option but the fuel efficiency looks like I'd be spending more time at the gas station than on the road lol. Are there any other vehicles people would recommend? I'm not super familiar with American cars, there any worth looking into?

Any responses are appreciated, thanks!
