Does completing lifeguarding courses guarantee you a job afterwards?

I heard there is a shortage of lifeguards in Vancouver, but I see no job openings on the city's website... Does completing Bronze Cross and Medallion, First Aid, and National Lifeguard courses guarantee you a job because of the shortage, or are they picky about who they select to be guards?

Also, can I take NL before completing Bronze Medallion and Cross? I heard they are pre-reqs for NL, but not sure how that works. Can Vancouver/lower mainland guards advise, please?

How are the hours and pay? Is it work getting recert every 2 years?

Stats Canada jobs summer 2026

Did anyone apply and get a call back? I applied and just got a call from them. It seems kinda late to still be looking for people. For those who are already working, how is the pay, hours, per diem, reimbursement, etc?

Year 2/3 Acceptance or Rejection

How many of you got in? How many did not? Internal or External? If you got in, what year are you starting in? There was a wave of acceptance earlier this week, wondering if that's it or more coming before June 30.

Looking for advice on purchasing a home for the first time

We are a family of 5 looking to purchase our first detached house in the Vancouver, BC area, because we were told this might be a good time to get into the market, since prices have been lower than the same time last year.

Current situation:
-Father is approaching 60 and works at a restaurant making min wage plus tips, 40 hours per week, sometimes more, sometimes less
-Mother is around 50, and works 2 jobs 7 days a week, making minimum wage, more than 40 hours per week
-Me 26, working part-time and doing school, clocking in 16 hours per week min wage plus tips
-Brother 24, lives in Toronto, making 100k annually in Finance
-Brother 18, just graduated from HS, unsure of his plans for the future

Assets:
-2015 apartment worth around 500k-600k, still have half the mortgage left
-2019 apartment worth around 500k, mortgage fully paid off, currently renting out for $1850
-I have 300k in stocks, and 15k in cash
-parents most likely have at least 100k in stocks, mutual funds, cash, etc.
-2 vehicles worth around 25k together

We were thinking of buying a house around the 1.2m to 1.8m mark, most likely a house where we can rent out part of it to help with the mortgage. We will be putting all of our names down for the house. I'm probably missing tons of details like taxes, home repairs, inspections, bills, etc. We haven't talked to the bank yet. Again, the reason we were thinking about this is that house prices are down right now, and it might be a good time to get in. Will the prices keep sinking, or will they rise in the next couple of years? Am I being too optimistic here and thinking we have a chance of home ownership, though we would most likely be paying at 7k or more per month for the mortgage, excluding everything else? What am I not considering? Open to hearing feedback, thoughts, and suggestions. Much appreciated.

High investment card scam from a redditor

Made a post on r/stocks asking where to invest 10k, got this message from someone asking me what I do, and if I have any other investments/jobs. Connected with him on LinkedIn, he is verified, and his work history looks legit (Account Executive at Amazon), I got on a phone call with him discussing a potential partnership to meet his card business demand. He sounded legit and is asking 5k for 20% return in 3 weeks, even sent over a contract to prove legittimacy and in case I didn't trust him. Told me he got a brick and motar license to buy sports cards in bulk and sells them to streamers on Whatnot. Is this a real business, or a scam? Has anyone ever experienced something like this on Reddit? Guy even talked like an executive. Advice would be appreciated.
