I did not expect the Freo fan to be this salty

I get it we were on the wrong end of some truly shit umpiring against GC but jeez some of them are carrying on like this is the biggest robbery. They even got a dodgy soft one to give them a chance from backchat and they stuffed it up. The Fritta mark, every freeze frame that shows the boundary line shows he was in, now they’re crying about Kozzie getting fined for staging getting a free in front of goal after they even got more goals from frees (which of course was all correct and totally correct).

They are the best team in the league, they’ve had no injuries, but instead of sitting back and just saying “yep good game, see you in finals” they have a cry about Fritta being in the car park.

And for any visiting Freo fans, yeah I know it’s not all of you, but it does appear to be the majority of media surrounding it.

Anyway, I’m having a laugh and shake of the head at their salty tears.

This might sound silly but….

…long run I think we’re going to be better off for the loss on Friday.

Yes of course I wanted to win and I would’ve loved bed to be sitting here stoked about us announcing ourselves to the comp. But we are still a young team and very much in development, this was our first match of this magnitude with this squad and it’s fair to say I think we got some stage fright.

Hopefully an experience like this will stand us in good stead for wherever we end up for September action.

What I’m keen to see is the reaction, we face an out of form Suns but up there against the Master Chef himself is no walkover.

Rewatching S1e05, was this a plot mistake?

Just a very quick question which had me a little confused. I had always thought the Haitians ability was that if within a certain proximity of him other peoples abilities were “switched off” or dormant. But in episode 5 where we see Nathan escape by flying the Haitian is literally right next to him.

Can someone explain if I’ve missed something about it?

Pies get the bye, we don’t

The club needs to tread a fine line with this between sounding like whingers and being strong with this, but I firmly believe the club needs to point out the totally biased inequity in the draw. If the Pies hadn’t been given a bye, I’d shrug the shoulders, but the fact that they do and we don’t is absolute favouritism.

Not only that, but we back up with a 5 day break, and then a trip to Adelaide. F### off AFL.

I’d like King on 360 to just cheekily ask McRae “so what are you planning to do now that you’ve got a bye? We’ll of course be back here in 5 days time.”

Half time vs Pies

Need to get my thoughts out. It’s very evenly poised. We need to put some work into Daicos. But more than anything we need to improve our efficiency. Missed some very good opportunities and kicked poorly inside 50.

Thoughts are with Checkers and his family. Fingers crossed he’s ok.

Now we’re gonna find out about this group

This isn’t a doom and gloom post, more it’s a post of interest for the future and something to come back to in 5 weeks time.

This period from Hawks to Pies I looked at and said we need to go 2/2. We’re currently 1/2 facing the pies and fine margins can make such a difference. If Langford and held his mark last week and we’d won after the siren I’d look sit back and be ok with the loss against GWS. Instead we are now heading into a tricky stretch to navigate and the AFL in their wisdom have decided to give us a 5 day break into Essendon (why not give us the bye?!).

As the title says, this is where we are going to learn about the resolve of the group. Against GWS I honestly felt like I’d gone into a historical match with Goodwin at the helm. It was up there as one of the worst performances I’ve seen from our club in 3 years.

But now comes the opportunity at a response. I suspect our players were gassed going into this match but there’s every chance the fitness team are priming the players for KB and the short break.

It’s been a tough week for the club, and the news of AMW getting an ACL season ended is gutting. But now the players need to stand up to say this is a new Melbourne, we aren’t going to be bullied by the Pies like we have in the past.

Time to end the NT games

It hasn’t worked, yes it gives us money and it’s good for the community. But every bloody year we turn up and we play poorly.

Last year I genuinely feel it cost us 4pts vs Saints, this season we look a shadow of ourselves and we’re away from our fortress.

I’m done.

The lasso rule…

So I’ll start this off by saying I don’t mind it so far but I think I’m still struggling with the interpretation.

I know a clear handball, kick, or tap in a contest towards the boundary is a free kick. I know that spoiling a mark to the boundary is allowed no matter what hat the scenario.

What I don’t know is whether incidental fumbling/contact to the ball where it dribbles out results in a free kick lasso. The example in particular that confused me was from our game against the dogs.

Dogs player got a lasso free kick. He proceeded to get smothered by one of our players, the ball bobbled around without any idea from either player of where it was, then it contacted against our players foot and went out. This resulted in another lasso free kick against the dogs.

Was this a correct decision? If it is what’s the reasoning, and if it wasn’t there didn’t seem to be any questions about it.

Look ahead to next week

Fair to say most of us are frustrated by the result today. Definitely one that got away and a reminder that while we have made great strides forward, we are very far from the finished package.

So let’s look to next week vs GWS. Tough game, the footy world was reminded that they are still a team stacked with talent and can turn things on very quickly. EDIT we play them in Alice Springs and we have shown a vulnerability away from the G.

So what are our changes and what must the group tidy up from this week?

Lever will come out with concussion, I think we have to bring TMac in to compensate for the loss of experience. GWS also have some very good forwards so a TMac steadies us.

For me I think Cross should come out, Melksham could be an option as I think we miss the experience up front.

Latrelle likely comes straight back in but not sure for who, Laurie is always one looked. I keep waiting for them to drop Heath, not because he’s doing anything wrong but just so allow an extra runner.

AMW had a cracker of a game from all reports, so he could be looked at.

I hope an emphasis on tackling is made this week, while entries inside 50 are also touched on.

Over to you guys…

EDIT we play in Alice not Canberra
