I just finished my first play through and realized I’ve never been into westerners but consume endless history content. I just watched The West by Stephen Ives, presented by Ken Burns and felt there were so many rdr characters with direct references to real people.

The sympathetic army major, the incredibly restrained Indian chief, confederate soldiers turning homesteaders, the ambition of settlers, trappers, gold diggers, and the specific ways the Native Americans were treated are all there. If you like the themes in the game but not in the mood for western films then I can’t suggest the doc series enough. Phenomenal on its own and goes into depth with 90% of what you see in the game. I think I like the game more now.

Fear not Kings, Queens, Doges, Consuls and Hochmeisters, the breathy government tabs and I’m-right-behind-you whispering effects are back. I’m not sure who hurt the sound design staff but they seem to insist on forcing these creepy and weird effects back into the game. Lettuce pray the maniacal laughing event effects make a return next.
