My emersed plant 'factory'
Randomly started a project to grow some stuff emersed for a tank in the future (basically ADHD sporadic project)
These things are growing like crazy, buces and anubias growing at speeds I didn't think was possible, and a plant I've never owned before (iguazu 2009) is thriving, 2nd last pic is a fresh leaf on the iguazu, very last pic is when I first got the anubias less than a month ago!!!
I've just used a large plastic storage container with deionised water - added saltyshrimp and I dose weekly with tnc complete. Got a heatmap hooked up to an inkbird to keep temp stable.
It's insanely fun and seeing the changes daily makes me so happy! I added microfauna to the tank (springtails, black worms, daphnia, and copepods) to make it more of an ecosystem.
I can't wait to get a tank setup in a year or so, I'm thinking of having a partially emersed part in the tank for the variegated anubias.
The iguazu wasn't too healthy when it arrived so I'm super happy to see it bounce back, I got some cryptocorne Balansae that was DESTROYED in shipping and has started to grow some emersed leaves which is exciting!!
Plants: Coral moss Titan buce Godzilla buce Giant velvet buce Snow white anubias Marble anubias Giletti anubias Random mystery anubias Erio quinquangulare Utricularia graminifolia Iguazu 2009 Cryptocorne Balansae
- Looks like I have a tiny Monte Carlo hitchhiker which is a welcome addition
If anyone else has done this, two questions! How often do you change the water? Will the UC eat all of my copepod friends?
Any tips are welcome, I'm completely winging it and very surprised how well it's gone so far. Emersed growing is fantastic, and trying to tissue culture sounded way too involved for me. I just burp the tub daily to get more co2 and add some tnc every Sunday
AND nothing (except the crypt that had melted already from shipping) suffered from melting which I was heavily anticipating in the first couple of weeks!!
The cat hair is to make the plants feel happy don't worry about it 😳
