LA California, full replacement, how’d I make out?

Had a 27 year old 4 ton system running fine last week. This week outdoor unit iced up like hell and air temp coming out of the registers was equal to the outdoor temp.

Tech said he could recharge but due to the age of the unit it could be 600-700 bones (Less than what I was expecting tbh). He seemed honest and gave me a several options. I opted to due a full replacement because the old unit was a bit shit, and the gas furnace was just as old.

I took the 4 ton enhanced efficiency option at $12,422.
What would you have done?

Received my annual policy renewal yesterday. $3100/year. My house is nothing special. Near Torrance high, 1,500 SF, not updated since built in 1998. Backyard is a few hundred sq feet of all concrete. House is worth less than $1M.

My insurance broker is a family friend who says cheaper policies are out there but the little coverage they provide isn’t worth the risk. He insists I shouldn’t settle for less coverage but I don’t understand insurance very well. Anyone out there in a similar home mind sharing what you pay each year? Would love to hear thoughts from some insurance gurus too if I’m lucky enough to catch the attention
