GENUINE ADVICE

I applied to CAAPID with high hopes. Although I applied late (late April through May end), I thought I had a good chance in getting at least one interview. I applied to 12 different schools, unfortunately, I did not get any interviews. The only response I got was an “on hold” from Touro which was basically what everybody else received as well.

Considering the time of the year, it’s safe to say I probably won’t get in the cycle. So in preparation for the next cycle, I am hoping to figure out the weaknesses in my profile or rather how I can improve my profile.

profile
- 4.0 ECE ( graduated from Kerala, India
- about 300 hours of shadowing in US dental clinics (150 in a non profit dental clinic)
- 1 study and 2 reviews from my dental college in which I was the lead author
- volunteering experience in the US in food banks, church and sports organizations
- only about three months of actual experience right after I graduated
- I also have one year of junior dentist experience which I did simultaneously along my internship all of this was not mandatory
- no prectorships or any any other academic experience from US
- no dental assistant experience in US
- no green card or US citizenship, I am a Canadian citizen though
- I thought my LOR and SOP wear strong, but obviously I’m starting to doubt it
- TOEFL 110

Once again, I thought my profile was strong, but as I have no interviews in August, I need to adjust several things. Please give me constructive advice on how to improve my profile. I used to think that it was because of the lack of experience, but I have seen posts where people are saying that fresh graduates have gotten more than 5+ invites.

Could it be my be my statement of purpose that is causing me be the lack of invites
Please give me any advice regarding my situation

* on another note, I’ve gotten a lot of advice and help from this group, as I won’t be using this group much more I’ll probably get off Reddit, so I want to just wanted to say thank you for all the advice and help

Cheers and thanks

Status of programs

I was wondering about the status of these programs that I’ve applied to

NYU , SIU and Pittsburg: I’ve heard these programs are done with the invites, and since I have not gotten a waitlist , these are done for me, right

Buffalo : going on right now
Herman Ostrow : invites start mid September

Touro : I got an email saying on hold, it seems everybody got the same email
Meharry : still haven’t gotten into the request for supplemental fee

No info on Howard, San Antonio or Nevada (UNLV)

If anyone can give me any information on any of these programs that would be great
thanks!

27M in Edmonton | Foreign dentist waiting on equivalency — looking for oilfield/rig greenhand work

Hi everyone,
I’m a 27-year-old Canadian citizen local to Edmonton. I completed my BDS abroad and am currently in the 1–2 year dental equivalency wait. Looking to make good money doing physical work during this gap.
Quick Stats:
Physique: 6'0", fit, comfortable with heavy physical labor and long hours.
Status: Clean driver’s abstract, clean urine, getting my H2S Alive and CSO tickets now.
Availability: Ready for camp/rotational hitches immediately.
A few quick questions:
1. Is it better to walk into yards in Nisku/Leduc or apply online?
2. Which companies/agencies are hiring greenhands (leasehand, floorhand, swamper) right now?
3. Any tips for someone coming in with a non-traditional background?
Appreciate any leads or advice

Direct Licensing Pathway?

Hey everyone,
I’m looking for some realistic input and advice from people who have gone through or are currently navigating the Canadian NDEB pathway.
My background:
Grew up in Canada, went to India for my BDS, and graduated in October 2025 (essentially a fresh grad).
Cleared the US INBDE on my first attempt and applied to 12 US Advanced Standing / CAAPID programs this cycle.
After getting hit with the reality of how tough and competitive US admission is, I’m seriously reconsidering my options.
Up until now, I’ve always viewed the Canadian Direct Equivalency route (AFK -> ACJ -> NDECC) as this near-impossible, daunting wall that no one passes. I honestly never gave it serious thought because everyone I talked to was trying for university degree programs instead. But now that my options are feeling limited, I want to take a serious look at it.
For those who have taken or are taking this route:
1. How doable is it really? Is it actually as "impossible" as people make it out to be, or is it just a matter of grinding hard with the right preparation?
2. What does a realistic timeline look like for a fresh grad starting document verification now? Could I finish in ~1.5 to 2 years if I clear things on the first attempt?
3. How necessary are the prep courses (like Prep Doctors, Confidentist, Scholars Dental, etc.) for someone straight out of school?
Any advice, personal experiences, or reality checks would mean a lot. Thanks in advance!

Help?

I am a 27-year-old male, Canadian citizen. I have a high school diploma from Canada and then I ended up doing a BDS (dentistry undergraduate) from India

Passed the INBDE and have applied to advanced standing programs which are incredibly competitive and tough to get in. For these programs you don’t know if you get if you get in until October or November or even later. I figured during that time I can do some work. I’m going back to Edmonton in Canada and I’m wondering what kind of work I can do?

These advanced standing programs are incredibly challenging to get in and I might not even get in this year. If I don’t get in this year then I have to wait a whole year same time next year before I can apply and get in again, so basically I am free for one year with just a high school education the BDS is not valid in Canada or North America so I was thinking of working like oil rig jobs. anybody who can give me any resources or information on that would be a great help

Thank you so much for your time

RESOURCES

Hi everyone,
I'm a fresh BDS graduate currently in the middle of my first CAAPID cycle. Applied to 12 programs-got 2 rejections so far ( UNC AND LLU)
and playing the waiting game for the remaining 10!

Right now, Reddit is pretty much my only resource, and it can feel a bit isolating waiting for updates in a vacuum. I'd love to connect with fellow applicants going through the process.

• Are there any active WhatsApp or Telegram groups (general cycle or school-specific) | could join?
• Are there any other forums or platforms you've found helpful for tracking invite waves or finding mock interview/bench prep study partners?

Any other resources , please tell

This is my first cycle and I really don’t know what’s going on. I don’t what I should I do right now. Like should I do bench prep or find side jobs. Very scared, please help through any valuable advice

These are my other applications - ( TOURO, HOWARD, HERMAN OSTROW, UNC, BUFFALO, MEHARRY, PITTSBURG,SIU, UT SAN ANTONIO, UNLV, NYU)

STILL APPLY??

So I’ve applied to about 12 programs and now I also want to apply to Rutgers, UCLA,Pacific and Boston.
The dates are still viable for Rutgers and Boston, but UCLA and Pacific is a bit tight. Should I still apply to any of these programs?

A bit about my profile I only have about four months of work experience as I just graduated recently . 3.6 GPA,Toefl 5.5, about 200 hours of shadowing, some research experience and some volunteering. Do you think I should still apply?
Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you. Good luck to everyone!

So I graduated in October 2025 and so I have only got my provisional certificate. My final degree certificate, they said it was gonna come in March but now they’re saying May🥲🥲🥲, are there any programs that required the final certificate at the time of application? I know buffalo requires it, any other programs?

I have heard Loma Linda is strict as well

Please advise if you have gone through the same process
