Nearly 90 years later, this protest sign still feels painfully current. Painting by Jonas Never
Jonas Never based this piece on a 1937 photo of a woman protesting immigration raids in downtown Los Angeles. Here, he places her in a modern street filled with riot police, a burning car and graffiti referencing ICE. That collision between 1937 and the present is what makes the painting hit so hard.
