Excursie - 2 nopti budapesta - bilete de tren

Salut!

RTX 4050 randomly limited to approx. 45W instead of more in DOOM: The Dark Ages (Lenovo LOQ 15ARP9) same settings every time

Hi everyone,

I'm having a really strange issue with my Lenovo LOQ (Ryzen 7 7435HS + RTX 4050 Laptop GPU) while playing DOOM: The Dark Ages.

Sometimes the game runs perfectly fine from launch, with the GPU boosting to around 75W and the performance is exactly what I'd expect.

Other times, with no changes (same Windows settings, same NVIDIA settings, same Lenovo Vantage Performance Mode, plugged into the charger), the game launches with terrible FPS right from the start. During these sessions, the GPU refuses to go above 40-45W, and performance is much worse.

What I've already checked:

  • Laptop is plugged in.
  • Lenovo Vantage is set to Performance Mode, tried the Custom one as well
  • NVIDIA drivers were clean installed using DDU
  • Windows power plan is set to High/Best Performance.
  • GPU temperatures stay around 63-68°C.
  • CPU temperatures stay around 75-85°C.
  • HWiNFO shows GPU is at 95-100% utilis., so the GPU is definitely being used.
  • CPU package power stays around 30W.
  • STAPM never reaches 100% (it stays around 60%), so it doesn't appear to be thermal throttling.
  • The issue happens when launching the game not after an extended session or whatever

Sometimes I launch the game and it runs perfectly at ~75W. Other times it's capped around 45W from the very beginning.

Since the GPU is fully utilized but isn't drawing its normal power, it feels like something is preventing it from entering its higher power state.

Can you help me with this? Thanks a lot!
