Colt AR-15 A2 Gov’t Model
Given to me by my father after completing BCT a few years back. It was purchased by him many many years ago. It’s never been fired. In fact, it still has the cardboard barrel insert/plastic protector cap for the flash hider that it shipped with. I did, however, take the parachutists bag out of its plastic packaging so I can keep it safe & padded up. He bought that with or around the same time as the rifle.
He swears that he has the bayonet somewhere. Whether that was bought with this piece in a package deal, or if it’s a generic poker, I’m not sure.
It’s the greatest gift I’ve ever received, & my most prized possession. I know these are purpose built items- but I’ll never fire this. To me, it’s a perfect time capsule/representation of the man he was when he was my age. I’ve owned this for a few years but never posted it anywhere. I didn’t really understand the appreciation for these rifles until I started looking to purchase an AR ‘of my own’ & looked this one up.
I recently went out & bought a much cheaper AR to shoot, which I’ll be taking him to come fire with me in a few weeks.
