4 years, 2 promotions, and only a ₱20k increase
Would you choose a bigger company or a ₱30k salary increase? Is this normal po ba na for big company to only have this small increase?!
I’ve been working for a large multinational company in the Philippines for 4 years. During those 4 years, I got 2 promotions and eventually moved into a leadership & functional role, but my total salary increase has only been around ₱20k.
Over the years, I’ve also taken on significantly more responsibility. I’ve contributed to major projects, worked closely with different teams, and have increasingly been involved in executive-level presentations and high-visibility work.
My responsibilities and visibility have grown a lot, but my compensation hasn’t really kept up.
And honestly, that’s where some of my frustration comes from. I’ve started to feel taken for granted.
Now that I’m leaving, they want to counter my offer with what they’re calling a “significant salary increase” plus another promotion.
The problem is, I already have an offer from a smaller company here in the Philippines. It’s small locally, but it’s actually a pretty big company in another country. They’re offering me ₱30k more than what I currently make.
So now I’m really torn. The bigger company has a strong name and reputation, and part of me wonders if I should stay now that they’re finally willing to recognize my value financially.
But another part of me thinks: why did it take me resigning for them to recognize that value?
Would you take the counteroffer and stay with the bigger company, or take the ₱30k increase and move to the smaller company?
