[ANDROID] ScanBeast — an RPG where you scan real-world barcodes to summon monsters and fight

Hey! Solo dev here, sharing ScanBeast, an Android game I've been building and iterating on for a few months.

The hook: you scan a real product's barcode (via Open Food Facts, a free/open grocery database) and it turns into a monster. The monster's stats aren't random — they're derived from the actual Nutri-Score and nutrition facts of the product. Healthier food = stronger beast. It's a small nudge to make grocery shopping (and reading labels) a little more fun.

What's in it right now:

  • Scan products → catch monsters, build your Bestiary
  • Turn-based battles with elements (Fire/Water/Earth/Air) and abilities
  • Live PvP duels with a friend over WiFi or Bluetooth — no internet needed
  • Evolve beasts through 5 stages by catching duplicates
  • Achievements/trophies + daily missions
  • A small consumables shop (potions/shields) as a coin sink
  • A "health corner" on each card showing the real nutrition data behind the monster
  • Full English/Italian localization, live-switchable

Tech: Qt6/QML + C++ for the client (single codebase, portable to iOS later).

It's still early and solo-developed, so some monsters are placeholders (art pipeline is Gemini + ESRGAN upscaling, new art rolls out automatically without app updates). I'd genuinely love feedback — what's fun, what's confusing, what you'd want next.

[Android] ScanBeast — scan real grocery barcodes to catch & battle monsters (early beta)

Game Title: ScanBeast

Playable Link: https://fugush.itch.io/scanbeast

Platform: Android (APK)

Description:

ScanBeast is a monster-collecting RPG built around a simple real-world hook: you

scan the barcode of actual food products, and the app turns each one into a

creature ("Beast") whose stats are generated from the product's real nutritional

values — so a sugary drink and a protein snack become very different monsters.

You collect them into a Bestiary, evolve them by capturing more, and fight

turn-based battles with an elemental rock-paper-scissors system, special

abilities, and a daily streak. It's a solo-dev passion project, currently in an

early beta and updated constantly. Foods that don't have custom artwork yet show

a themed "mystery" placeholder creature, and new art is delivered over-the-air

without needing to reinstall. The game is Italian-first, but English

localization is already in and switchable from the settings. Where I'd like to

take it if it gains traction: local multiplayer where two players physically

near each other (for example in the same supermarket) can discover one another

and duel, plus an iOS build so it isn't Android-only. I'm looking for honest

feedback on whether the core loop (scan → catch → battle) is genuinely fun,

whether battle difficulty feels right, and any bugs or confusing UI. There's a

feedback form (2 min): https://forms.gle/SBERT68MPXSRHe3U9. Thanks for trying it!

Free to Play Status:

[ ] Demo/Key available

[ ] Paid (Allowed only on Tuesdays with [TT] in the title)

Involvement:

Solo developer — I built the whole thing myself: game design, C++/Qt Quick (QML)

code, the barcode-to-monster system, artwork pipeline, and backend. This is my

project and I'm actively developing it.

[Android] ScanBeast — scansiona i codici a barre dei prodotti veri per catturare e combattere mostri (beta, cerco feedback)

Ciao a tutti!

🔗 Gioca (gratis, APK Android): https://fugush.itch.io/scanbeast

Realizzato con : C++/Qt Quick (QML), backend nutrizionale su Open Food Facts.

**Cosa c'è ora:**

- Scansiona prodotti veri → cattura la loro Bestia

- Colleziona ed espandi il Bestiario

- Battaglie a turni con elementi e abilità

- Evoluzione, streak giornaliera
