Consultants/regs: how often does an observer on your team end up with a job there?

I'm an Irish student at a Bulgarian medical school (so no Irish intern year), planning to observe on a medical team after graduating and hoping it leads to an SHO post.

Most stories online come from people it worked for, so I'd love the other side from anyone who's hosted observers or attachment doctors:

Roughly how many have you had in the last few years, and how many got a post on your team, or anywhere, within a year?

What made the difference for the ones who did?

Did any get nothing, and why?

Is it different in a peripheral hospital vs a Dublin teaching hospital?

Not looking for a job or an observership, just trying to plan realistically. Thanks!

Edit: thanks all, the consensus so far is that observerships rarely lead to jobs and direct applications are the better bet. Is anyone on a general or acute medicine team seeing anything different? Even a rough "we had about X observers, Y got posts" would help.

Did your observership, attachment or student placement in Ireland turn into a job? Which hospital, how long?

Irish student at a Bulgarian med school, planning the route home. On LinkedIn I've seen people go from 3–7 month observerships (and in some cases summer placements as students) at Navan, Drogheda, Portlaoise, Clonmel and Portiuncula to SHO posts in the same hospital. If you did one (2024–26):

  1. Which hospital, how long, and did it lead to a job there, somewhere else, or nothing?

  2. Had you been there before as a student?

  3. What made the difference: the consultant pushing your name, an advertised post, a gap that came up, locum shifts?

Thanks!

Bulgarian/Romanian grads: how long from the last state exam to the actual diploma, and could you get it early?

Irish student at Pleven. Ireland's Medical Council and the GMC both want the diploma itself, and ours is handed out at a May ceremony months after the last exam. Did anyone get theirs issued early (e.g. for a job start), or get registered on the uverenie/pre-diploma certificate? Which uni, and how long from last exam to diploma to registration? Thanks!

Irish student at a Bulgarian med school: 3 questions about the first SHO job I can't find answered

Irish, 2nd year at MU-Pleven, aiming for GP training here. I know the basics (no Irish intern year for Bulgarian grads, so straight to standalone SHO; the IMC needs the diploma; Leaving Cert + a uni letter covers English. What I can't find:

  1. For anyone who shortlists standalone SHOs: does a student placement in your department 1–3 years earlier count for anything with a new EU grad, or only experience after registration?

  2. EU grads whose diploma came months after the final exam: did anyone get IMC registration or a job offer before it arrived (e.g. the uni issuing it early on request)? How long from last exam to registration?

  3. Did anyone observe in an HSE hospital between graduating and IMC registration, using home-country or GMC registration? Did medical manpower accept it?

Thanks!

Medicine with just GCSES

Is it possible to study medicine in the EU with just GCSEs and no A-levels I saw some conflicting opinions on this especially in regards to Pleven medical university. Some people said its possible some said not

If anyone knows anything about this any information would be much appreciated

Is WadiMedicine legit?

Hi I'm from the UK I plan to study medicine in Poland. I saw an agency called WadiMedicine on TikTok I can't seem to find any reviews on them but they charge less than all the other agencies but I can't find any reviews
