MTB or e-MTB for weekend rides and after-work laps?

I'll be living in Auburn for a while and trying to decide between a regular trail MTB and an e-MTB. It'll get used two ways: after-work laps on Auburn trails, and weekend rides out at Tahoe, Downieville, and Nevada City.

Auburn's trails start with great descents, but then you pay for it with about a 50 minute climb just to get back to the car or town. With limited time and energy after work, I'm trying to figure out which bike makes more sense.

Anyone riding this mix of trails regularly, which way did you go and why? Thanks a bunch!

Tire upgrades from 2.6 bontrager xr4.

Howdy! I'm looking to upgrade my tires and want to know if others have seen real gains in rolling speed and grip from doing so.

My setup: Trek Roscoe 7 (trail hardtail, 140mm travel), Bontrager XR4 2.6" tires (stock, no inserts) on 29" wheels.

Terrain: Sacramento area, very rocky (mostly sharp rocks, not much dirt).

What I'm after: A tire that rolls faster uphill without giving up grip or comfort.

Any recommendations?
