Time To Test - Subsonic Hunting Rounds

I’m about to start testing some subsonic hunting rounds (Maker Rex 200gn Expanding Copper Solids) for whitetail deer this November.

Even with the right ammo for subsonic hunting, this is going to be used at a maximum range of 50 yards. I know that Maker makes excellent bullets, but I’ll still be testing these loads through a chrono and on gel blocks before taking them into the field in November.

I’ll be referencing several of my reload manuals (Hornady, Lyman, etc.) to figure out a starting load and tune from there. I’d love to hear any recommendations or results anyone feels like sharing.

Test rifle will be a frankenrifle with a 10.5” PSA upper 1:7 twist, running an Omega 36M with a 30 cal end cap.

I think this may be poison hemlock, but I’m definitely no expert. It grows abundantly on my property in low wet areas. I’m not exaggerating but there’s hundreds of these down here.

Location: North/Central Kentucky, USA

Zone: 7a

Thanks!
