Partial drop AMA / GMeet?

Hey guys, I've been getting a lot of DMs about partial drops after my recent posts, so thought I'd ask here instead of trying to answer everyone individually.

For context, I'm a successful partial dropper from JNTUH. I joined JNTUH, prepared for BITSAT alongside college, and ended up at BITS Hyderabad MSc Economics this year.

But I want to say this upfront: partial drop is MUCH harder than it looks from the outside. I had also thought I'd just manage college and study 3–4 hours a day on the side. That didn't exactly happen. There were months where I barely studied, and I had to restart my preparation pretty late. I still managed to pull it off, but I wouldn't want people to look at my result and assume that partial drops are easy or that it'll automatically work out if they put in some effort.

There are also a lot of things that are difficult to explain properly over DMs managing college, deciding whether it's actually worth leaving your current college, what happens when preparation goes off track, how much time you realistically have, what I'd do differently, and who should actually consider a partial drop in the first place.

So I'm thinking of doing a GMeet tomorrow evening or this weekend for anyone who's interested. We can have an open discussion and you guys can ask whatever you want instead of me writing 20 different paragraphs in DMs.

If enough people are interested, I'll organise it and post the time/link here.

Would you guys be interested in a GMeet tomorrow evening or weekend? Or would you rather I make a detailed post instead?

If you're interested in the GMeet, just comment interested or something below so I can get an idea of how many people would join.

I thought seniors were glazing BITS. They weren't.

BRO... WHAT IS THIS PLACE 😭❤️

Reported at BPHC on the 30th for MSc Eco and I'm still processing everything.

Yesterday, a few of us were talking in the hostel GC and randomly decided to have a jamming session at the QT after the new 10 PM in time rule. We thought it'd just be a bunch of freshers singing songs for an hour or so.

We already had one guy playing the guitar at the QT, and then out of nowhere some absolute aura farmer walks onto his 4th floor Valmiki balcony, pulls out another guitar and starts playing from up there 😭. A while later people literally showed up with a whole electronic setup, more guitars. Before we knew it there were four guitars playing together while the entire QT was singing.

The craziest part wasn't even the setup. It was the people. EVERYONE was ridiculously talented. Every few minutes someone new would grab a guitar and somehow be amazing. It didn't feel forced. It didn't feel like an event. It just... happened.

People always say BITS is magic.

I used to think that was just another overused line seniors threw around.

I get it now.

I finally understand why people value BITS so much. It's not just the academics or placements. It's the people you end up surrounded by. The talent, the culture, the random moments that somehow turn into core memories. If this is what a completely random hostel night looks like, then the campus life is 100% worth every bit of the hype.

Also...

VALMIKI >>> GAYTAM 😤

Goa glazers...

I've heard your campus life propaganda for MONTHS.

So

Where Is the evidence?

All talk no show?

My last post as BITS Aspirant

My bags are packed. My documents are neatly sitting in a folder. I should probably be sleeping because we leave for Hyderabad tomorrow, but instead I'm just sitting here thinking about how this is probably the last night I'll ever call myself a BITS aspirant.

That feels... weird.

For almost two years, this dream quietly took over my life. It stopped being just another entrance exam and became the answer to almost every "what's next?" question. Tomorrow I'll report at BITS Hyderabad, but tonight feels like saying goodbye to a version of myself that's been around for much longer than I realised.

The funny part is... this story could've ended a year ago.

I actually got MSc Mathematics last year too. But the fees genuinely scared me, and I just didn't have the courage to take that leap. I also loved Computer Science and kept thinking maybe I could do better if I gave myself one more chance. So I joined JNTUH, took a partial drop and promised myself that this would be my final attempt. If I failed, I'd accept it. I just didn't want to spend the rest of my life wondering what if.

People think a partial drop is hard because of the syllabus. It isn't. The hardest part is feeling like you don't belong anywhere. You're physically sitting in one college while mentally living in another. You never let yourself settle because you're hoping you'll leave, but until that happens, you're just stuck in between. Then life decided to make things even harder. Almost everything that could've gone wrong somehow did, and somewhere along the way this stopped being a year of preparation. It became a year of survival.

There's a quote that says, "When you're going through hell, keep going." I used to think it was just another motivational line until I actually found myself living it. Somewhere during that phase, I completely broke down and called u/MoreMongoose2850. I wasn't calling to ask about preparation I called because I genuinely didn't know how much longer I could carry everything at once. He didn't promise me I'd make BITS. He simply listened, reminded me why I'd started and somehow gave me enough strength to keep going. I honestly don't think he realises how much that conversation changed my year.

The funny thing is, he'd unknowingly motivated me long before that call. Last year, after the Pilani meetup, he told me that if I made it to Pilani the following year, he'd give me a Midtown treat. It was probably just another comment for him, but I kept going back and reading it on days when believing in myself felt impossible. I didn't make it to Pilani, but tomorrow I'll still be walking into a BITS campus. I think that's close enough to finally claim that treat, bhai.

This subreddit became so much more than an exam community for me. Somewhere between the slanders, the counselling discussions, the memes and eventually becoming a moderator, it quietly became home. I came here looking for preparation advice, but I left with friends, memories and a community that made one of the hardest years of my life a little less lonely. Becoming a moderator and giving back to the same place that helped me so much is something I'll always be grateful for.

Eventually, BITSAT happened.

Am I proud of that score?

Honestly... no.

I know I was capable of more. But somewhere along the way, this journey stopped being about proving how many marks I could score. It became about proving that no matter how hard life got, I wasn't going to give up on the dream I'd carried for so long.

A year ago, I walked away from BITS because I didn't have the courage to choose it.

Tomorrow, I walk back into BITS because somewhere during the hardest year of my life, I finally found that courage.

That means more to me than any score ever could.

To everyone joining BITS this year, congratulations. Whether you're a fresher, a dropper or another partial dropper, enjoy every second of the next few years. Make memories, meet people, attend the meetups and don't spend all of college chasing the next milestone.

HYD PEOPLE...

Kaex and I are planning a Hyderabad meetup once reporting settles down. Pilani people have already started flexing, Goa people think they're the coolest campus, but Hyderabad isn't losing this before college even starts. I better see all of you there.

And finally...

Thank you, r/Bitsatards.

Thank you for every guide, every meme, every doubt answered, every senior who helped a stranger and every moderator who made this place what it is. And thank you, u/MoreMongoose2850, for a Midtown treat that became a promise in my head, for a phone call I'll never forget and for believing in me during a year when believing in myself was the hardest thing I'd ever had to do.

I should probably get some sleep.

Tonight is my last night as a BITS aspirant.

Tomorrow...

I finally wake up as a BITSian.

And somehow...

It still doesn't feel real.

See you all on campus. ❤️

Everyone Please CHECK Your 12th marks on the website

Everyone, please check your Class 12 marks on the BITS admission portal, even if you don't need to make any edits.

I opened my application today just to double check everything, and I noticed that my Physics and Mathematics marks had somehow been swapped. I corrected them immediately. I'm not sure how it happened maybe I entered them incorrectly, or it could have been some other issue but it's better not to take any chances.

So please take 2 minutes and verify that:

  • Your subject-wise marks are correct.
  • Your total marks are correct.
  • All your details match the marksheet and the scorecard you uploaded.

If there is any mismatch, correct it before the deadline (5 PM today).

A mismatch between the marks entered in the portal and the marks on your uploaded marksheet could lead to problems during verification and may even result in your seat being cancelled. It's probably nothing for most people, but there's absolutely no harm in checking once.

Please don't ignore this. Just log in and verify everything one last time. Better safe than sorry.

BITSians, can you drop a short review of your branch?

BITSians, can you drop a short review of your branch?

We're working on a website that has BITS cutoffs, branch details, counselling info, etc. One thing we wanted to add was reviews from actual students because most branch discussions are scattered across Reddit comments and random posts.

If you're currently in BITS, it'd be really helpful if you could leave a short review of your branch in the comments.

Just mention:

- Campus

- Branch

- Year

And anything you feel juniors should know about the branch. Could be academics, workload, placements, opportunities, things you like/dislike, whether the branch was what you expected, or literally anything else.

Doesn't have to be a long review even a few lines would help a lot.

We'll compile the responses and put them on the website (with branch and year, not your username) so future aspirants have one place to read about different branches.

Would really appreciate any responses. Thanks!

FAQ Drive for BITS

Hello everyone,

As BITS counselling is about to begin, we know many of you have recurring questions regarding branches, dual degrees, scholarships, and campus systems. To streamline information and help you make informed decisions, the moderation team and seniors have compiled a comprehensive FAQ Drive folder.

We strongly encourage every incoming fresher to read through these documents before posting queries on the subreddit.

FAQ Drive Link:https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1JyFbkCmRjzmI4NVP0UzmjORtvmNjHPTq

What you will find in this Drive:

  • Academics & Preferences: Detailed guides on the Dual Degree System (including past allotment statistics), a thorough comparison of BE vs MSc, rules for both horizontal and vertical branch transfers, and strategic advice on structuring your branch preference list.
  • Scholarships: A complete breakdown of Merit and Merit-Cum-Need (MCN) scholarships. This includes income caps, necessary ITR documentation, and historical CGPA cutoffs.
  • Internships (Practice School): An overview of how the PS system functions at BITS.
  • Campus Specifics: General information regarding food and dining facilities, as well as detailed breakdowns of newer branches like BE Environmental & Sustainability.

Most of your initial doubts will be answered by reading through these PDFs.

WhatsApp Community for Further Guidance

While the Drive is your primary resource, we have also set up a WhatsApp community for any specific, remaining queries. If you have read the relevant documents and still need clarification, you can join the group to connect directly with seniors for further guidance.

WhatsApp Invite Link:https://chat.whatsapp.com/JmKLQx5B5CyBIB5LJAPy7U

Please ensure you have reviewed the Drive folder before asking questions in the WhatsApp group or making a new post on the subreddit. This helps our seniors assist you more efficiently and keeps discussions organized.
