For context I'm a msc maths first yearite. Recently got into one of the best commitments on campus regarding something I'm passionate about but I feel empty. I got 97.6%ile in mains and all that reminds me of is that I'm one of the dumbest people on campus. My cg is probably gonna end up around 8 and while thats not bad, if I can't reach an A even after trying my best, what good is it to even try. I also do have friends a lot of them but I can't shake the feeling theyre all better than me, or I dont deserve to be there. While I got in iteration 1, ever since getting in no matter what I accomplish I seem to be getting nowhere with my self esteem, or feeling good about myself
are there attractive guys in bits? what about fests and prom n stuff?
Hey guys,
Looking for some genuine insights from seniors (or pass-outs) regarding Mechanical Engineering at the Hyderabad campus. I’m heavily considering taking it, but I have a few major doubts before I lock it in.
How is the department actually? Are the professors chill or do they make life a living hell with grading? Also, what’s the general college life like for a mech student? Is it just constant lab reports or do you actually get time to breathe and enjoy the campus? are people too strict with attendance and all that? can we skip classes if we dont feel they are necessary?
If my Class 11th/12th mechanics concepts are kind of mid, am I walking into a trap? Do the college courses build you up from the basics, or do they expect you to be an absolute god at rotational motion from day one? Like im not too bad with the concepts but sometimes struggle in a few of them
What’s the real scene with placements? I know the core market in India can be tough, but do a lot of mech guys safely pivot to IT/Finance/Non-core roles? How many companies actually allow mech students to sit for tech roles? Also, is there a massive branch hierarchy on campus where CS/Phoenix folks look down on lower branches, or is the peer group generally inclusive and supportive?
Would love to hear some unfiltered thoughts. Thanks in advance!
Dualite here, 23 batch.
Can anyone please clarify something regarding the finance minor?
I applied for the finance minor in my 2nd year, but later in my 3rd year I decided to drop it so that I could focus on improving my CGPA. I completed only FOFA and got a C grade in it, and I’m no longer pursuing the remaining finance minor courses.
My doubt is regarding PS2 and company visibility:
Will dropping the minor create any issue during PS2?
Will the college show my offshoot as 6 because of the dropped minor, or will it simply not appear to companies?
Does dropping the finance minor after doing only FOFA affect PS2 opportunities in any way?
If anyone has clarity on how this is reflected to companies during PS2, please let me know.
pilani, dualite, incoming 2nd yearite, probably getting eee as my dual because of a few subjects I screwed up in my first sem (sgpa is ~9 in second sem so you can imagine how much i screwed up my first sem to still land eee). I'm thinking of repeating chem and M1 (multivariable calculus) since I got a C in both of them. Is it worth it to repeat them next sem? my msc degree is bio if that helps.
I'm aware that the latest grade is taken, not the best of two, which is why im a little conflicted about whether to repeat or not. also that my dual is now fixed and I'll be stuck studying bijlee for the next 4 years
I am a 3rd year dualite from goa campus, Is there anyway for me to register for summer term now? I have been home for 4 days only and don’t know how will I be able to live here for whole vacations.
I didn’t fill the g form earlier as I had no plans of doing summer term but staying at home made me realise that I hate it here. College is such heaven compared to home.
Greetings,
I have a few serious questions about reduction of financial dependency while in college and about MCN scholarships for AY 2026-27 and beyond.
The main questions are in bold letters.
---
Is the final eligibility limit for MCN announced yet, or are the numbers still speculative?
When is it typically announced each year?
---
This year, during the filling of the preference form, these are the listed family income categories among which one is to be selected:
Plus, during the stage of uploading the ITR/other such documents, it is described that those who do not wish to apply for the MCN scholarship for the first semester will have to submit a self-declaration of the same in PDF format, in place of the financial documents, AND select their family income category as 20+ LPA.
But was the portal like this in previous years too, or was it different?
---
I think it is highly unlikely that the BITS authorities would design the preference form portal like this only to contradict their own portal later and state that the eligibility limit is not 20 LPA, because if they did, I think they would face a lot of reputational backlash and possibly legal retribution too.
---
Now, my family income (gross, without deduction) is between 19 and 20 LPA. My father is the only working parent.
But it's not as if I can comfortably accept financial dependence. My parents have been intermittently yet extremely abusive (publicly high-functioning, abusive behind closed doors) and controlling in my past (though the worst is behind me, and I am gaining more control now) and I want to estrange myself from them not long after completing college, and build material independence during college.
In fact, the relationship is already broken beyond repair, and the only reason I am still with them is legal dependency, which of course will take time to resolve because I don't yet have housing or income of my own.
I do not want to become subservient to my abusers. But would finances force me to?
They might use money for coercion, that's why I ask.
To me, 32 lakhs' worth of money in fees equates to 32 lakh strings attached, because provision always came with strings attached.
Therefore, I want to minimise dependence to the maximum extent possible, but I also do not want to burn myself out in the process of chasing the merit-only scholarships (which I understand require a consistent 9.5+ CGPA, maybe even more). I have understood that I learn better when I do not experience incessantly high pressure (external or self-imposed). I would rather stay on the right side of the line between discipline and overexertion.
So I feel like MCN would offer me some breathing room. Even if I do not secure it in all semesters, the reduction of dependency will be substantial.
Therefore, I am currently in a state of deep confusion about whether I can make the cut for MCN or not.
But in the event that I am not eligible for MCN, am I consigned to depend on my abusers, or is it required to grind till I ruin my health, or is there a balanced third way?
This question is making me doubt whether prioritising BITSAT prep over "the great government college rat race" (JEE) was a blunder or not, even though I have always performed better in BITSAT mocks than JEE mocks, and my score in BITSAT attempt 1 is substantially better than my JEE Main percentile or my predicted JEE Advanced score in terms of admission prospects.
I am keeping a drop year as the absolute worst-case option.
---
Are merit-only scholarships (even 50%) really tough to secure, especially if not a CS student?
How can I take minimal money from my parents over the course of 4 years, beyond the obvious (reducing overspending)? I use zero subscription services because I do not feel the need for any. I am not a spendthrift.
Can I start building my income even before PS/placements? If yes, how? Is it difficult to manage acads (specifically EEE/ENI) along with these income streams?
Are education loans student-friendly, or is it better to treat them like a last resort? In case I do need a loan, can I borrow independently and repay independently later, without involving my parents at all?
---
Please note: It's not about college admission alone, it's about the quality of my life.
But also, I am not depressive, suicidal or anything like that. Far from it, in fact. I wish to make correct decisions, that's all.
---
In another post on this sub , I have described what I am interested in and want to work in. I had asked a few questions related to that. Please check that out if you wish to know what branch/field I aspire to get into.
I am currently filling out the preference form and had a query regarding the family income proof requirement.
My family members had not filed Income Tax Returns earlier because their income was below the taxable limit. However, since income proof is required for the form, they have now filed ITR-U returns. As the filing was done recently, the processed ITR-U acknowledgement/documents may take longer to become available and might not arrive before the last date for filling the preference form.
I wanted to ask:
1.Whether BITS Pilani will accept ITR-U filed now as valid income proof for the preference form/process.
2.How I should proceed with the preference form at present if the final processed documents are not immediately available before the deadline.
3.Whether any temporary undertaking, acknowledgement receipt, or alternative document can be uploaded in the meantime.
I have mailed the same to bitsat admission email a couple of days ago but they haven't replied so could any seniors please help me out?
What do you guys think would be the cutoff for degrees like CS, MnC, EnC, ECE this year? The grading was much better than last year. Would it be dumb to say cutoff for cs would be 8.5+?
I personally am hoping for MnC, I think it will be above 8.3
I’ve heard that BITS Pilani campus mechanical engineering offers strong automotive prospects including a strong formula student team and people getting good internships at Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBDRI).
Can anyone tell me more about the student formula team and how often do mechanical engineers land internships at Mercedes?
Hey seniors, I wanted to get some clarity about branches and campuses before making a decision. (I apologize if this isn't the correct place to ask these questions but other related threads were mostly inactive)
I had a few questions mainly about choosing Pilani ECE vs Goa CSE:
Would really appreciate honest opinions and experiences. Thanks!
Hey Guys,
I secured 2nd place in the APOGEE Paper Presentation event, but I still haven’t received the prize money or certificate.
I’ve tried following up through email, but there haven’t been any recent updates regarding the status or expected timeline.
I tried messaging one of the organizers regarding the same but no reply from their side as well.
Help is appreciated, thanks !!
According to last year's cutoff I'll be getting environmental and sustainibilty at goa/hyd so should I take it given that I am more inclined towards startup and all, and also how's the finance and consulting scene at bits hyd/goa? Fees is not an issue
PLEASE READ BODY BEFORE VOTING!!
Will get Bits environmental based on session 1 score.
My other option is RVCE CS (management quota but fees is not an issue)
My plans are Masters from abroad
Do a startup eventually
Might do job for 1 year for work experience.
When will the grades for 2nd sem be released i heard that it has been released for the 2nd yearites(just curious)
@unplaced people, what are your plans now?😭😭
Like are assignments in classes posted online or do we get a hardcopy or something and is it even allowed in classrooms by profs??
I'll mp have a cg of 8.4ish (maybe 8.5) at the end of 2-2, but my CDCs aren't that strong (I mostly have Bs and B-s in them).
Plus I don't have a single electronics project on my resume 😭.
If I start grinding now, what are my chances of landing a good ET SI? I have heard that very few ppl get ET SI and I don't think my chances are that good seeing the competition around me..
Some tips on what exactly I should and should not do.. I know that having a strong grasp of CDCs (DD, MPI, MEC etc.) is a must alongwith CompArch, Advd. what else? where should I practice the questions from?
If my chances of ET SI are too low should I just start grinding leetcode and hope for the best? Is 2 months enough time to get that good of a grasp of DSA? (I won't be starting from scratch but I haven't touched coding in a long while). Which path is more feasible?
(Also, any tips on personal projects are appreciated 🙏)
