Another one from the Brazilian/Portuguese Empire, this time one struck in Bahia over a visible 8 Reales 1792 - Charles IV - New Spain (Mexico).
640 Réis 1825 (Rio de Janeiro)
Those sound like silver when struck, they are non magnetic. Both with 39,5mm in diameter and around 3mm in thickness. So probably it is silver.
No experiencie with this type, but comparing to online pictures they look off, especially the 1799 one. Please, what is your opinion, are they fake?
Coins of this type are generally found struck over Spanish Colonial 8 reales. (The British controlled the silver mines; Brazil had to use foreign coins as planchets for its coins.)
Under the U.S. laws, Brazilian 960 reis were not legal tender unless a Spanish 8 reales under type was somewhat visible.

As in most of my big silver coins outside the Americas + the gold. I satarted working in a collection of older, more Crown like coins, but 10-15 g coins, and National coins are usually more affordable in the places that I buy, and I go almost always for price first.
These are the crowns own from countries in America (excluding a bigger Brazilian collection).

I bought this one for under spot price last month (roughly at spot price with delivery). Trustworthy seller, but with out-of-focus pictures in the listing. Thought it would be in worse shape, but I’m happily surprised.
Not a very impressive toner, but got it for $56 yesterday, so I’m very impressed 🙃
I’ve just took it out of a set/box where it was for the last 2 decades.
I think it is enough toning for this one, what do you think, should I keep it in the box?

Ive just got a small Lot of F/VF USA coins, everything looks ok execpet for this one. Looks just fake, but I was wondering why some one would make a fake and not add the denomination? Is it a medal of some kind? It is non-magnetic, has same dimentions of a regular half dollar, and similar weight of a worn one.
I’m still a gold noob, looking for my third piece. I have been thinking the whole day and cant decide, would you buy the Soverign for melt price+2% or the Guinea for melt+11%? Or keep looking for another one?
I’ve just Bought this 1965 set in a small on-line auction here in Brazil, where every peace of silver was going for at least 95% of spot, and this was the only one that was really cheap so I’m a little skeptical, are there non silver 1965 sets/coins (10 cents to 1 Dollar)? And if silver, how much, compared to spot, generally is a set like this?
