Are we fuxed?

West Texas is quietly turning into the center of the AI boom. Massive AI data centers are being planned in places like Pecos County, Abilene, Odessa/Ector County and surrounding parts of the Permian Basin. One project in Pecos County alone could use more electricity than some major cities. We’re talking private power plants, endless transmission lines, massive water demand and industrial expansion across land that was ranches and oilfield just years ago.

People think these are just server buildings. They’re not. They’re industrial-scale AI factories running 24/7 and consuming city-sized amounts of power and water in areas already dealing with drought, grid concerns and infrastructure strain.

The billionaires will survive. Fuck your left fuck your right.

Texas is quietly becoming the center of the AI world. Right now there are dozens of massive AI/data center projects either planned or under construction across the state, with over 10+ gigawatts of projected power demand this decade alone. Two of the biggest AI campuses in the entire U.S. are expected to be built in Texas the Stargate/OpenAI project in Abilene and the GW Ranch project in Pecos County.

These aren’t just “computer buildings.” They’re industrial-scale AI factories powered by hundreds of thousands of GPUs running 24/7 for things like AI models, military systems, automation, simulations and cloud computing. The crazy part is the amount of infrastructure they require. Entire power plants, substations, battery farms, solar fields and transmission lines are being built just to support them.

But with that comes major concerns. These facilities could put massive strain on the Texas power grid, increase electricity demand statewide and reshape parts of West Texas into industrial energy corridors. Water is another huge issue, especially in dry regions like the Permian Basin, because cooling systems for these campuses can require enormous amounts of water daily. Supporters see jobs, investment and the future of technology. Critics worry about water, land use, grid stability and what happens when corporations start consuming city sized amounts of electricity in rural communities.

This is not included the ones being build around the us
