Recs for entertainment at the airbnb?

Hi Austin peeps, my friends from college and I are meeting up in Austin for double reunion and for a birthday in the group. Since we have a relatively larger group (15 people) we were looking to do activities to do/have/host at the airbnb. Any recommendations out there? average age is 29 years old and we will take any and all suggestions! We are already having chefs come to the house since getting reservations at restaurants has also been hard.

Thank you in advance!

Audi maintenance

Hi! I have a 2024 Audi a5 sportback that needs the 30k mile maintenance package and oil change. Are there any recommended places to do it instead of the dealership? I don’t want to pay $900

Looking for housing in Austin – moving in September

Looking for housing in Austin – moving in September
Hey! Still haven’t had much luck finding a place, so trying here again.
My friend and I are looking for a place in Austin starting September, preferably a sublease or flexible lease for around 4–6 months.
Budget: $900–$1,100 total/month
1B is fine if it’s reasonably spacious; 2B would be great
Prefer somewhere safe with decent access to downtown
We’re both students/recent grads, clean and respectful
We’re into EDM/raves, fitness, and meeting new people, so being around other students/young professionals would be a plus
If anyone has a room/apartment/sublease available or knows someone looking for tenants, please DM me. Thanks!

Moving to Austin in my early 30s — is Burnet/N Lamar a good fit?

Hey everyone! I’ve been looking to move to Austin for a while now and could really use some advice.

I’m a 33-year-old single guy with a dog, working from home, and I’m basically looking for a fresh start somewhere new. I don’t know anyone in Austin currently, so one of my bigger priorities is finding an area where it’s relatively easy to get out and meet people. I’ve also been interested in finding a new job, and most of the Austin jobs I’m looking at are either downtown or around the Domain. I know I want to be north of the river, though, and I don’t think living downtown or around E 6th would really be my thing.

I worked with a locator and we ended up looking mostly around Burnet (Albright, Waylon, and Lenox Burnet) and N Lamar (Odell and Atlas North Lamar), basically everything north of W Koenig. They also suggested I look at the Domain, although I know that area seems to get a pretty strong reaction from people on here

I’d definitely take any advice on those specific apartments, but I’m honestly more interested in the areas themselves. What I’m really looking for is somewhere with at least some walkability to restaurants/bars, and an area where I can meet people and have a decent social life.

I already plan on doing Austin Sports & Social Club and I’m on Meetup, so I know there are ways to meet people once I get there. I’m not expecting where i live to magically provide me with a social life, but since I’ll be starting from scratch, I’d rather not make it unnecessarily difficult on myself.

For anyone familiar with Burnet/N Lamar/that general area, does it sound like a good fit for what I’m looking for? Or are there other areas north of the river that I should look at?

I know a lot of questions get asked on this sub, so I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to read this and give me some input! :)

Recs for a dog day out?

Our English bulldog, Buffy, is not long for this world and I am taking a few days off to spoil the crap out of her before we say goodbye.

Any recs for dog-friendly activities/places that your pups love would be so appreciated! Also any ideas for ways that you have memorialized your fur babies are welcome.

We already have a doggy shoot scheduled at Reflect Portrait Studio and an aura photo at Soul Glow Aura!

Thank you! 🙏🏻

Your best post up with a laptop coffee shop in North Austin that isn’t Starbucks

I’ve been landing at either the Starbucks at great hills or the one in the domain. Looking to broaden my horizons in North Austin post up and work coffee shops.

Moving to Austin for Tesla — neighborhood/apartment recommendations?

Hi! I’m moving to Austin soon for an internship at Tesla Giga Texas and I’m looking for a studio or 1-bedroom apartment. My budget is around $1,300/month.

I’ve mainly been looking around Easton Park, Mueller, Windsor Park, and East Austin, but I’m open to other areas too.

My biggest priority is safety since I’ll be living alone. I’d also ideally like to be around a 20-minute drive to Giga Texas, in a clean and well-maintained area that’s somewhat walkable with coffee shops, restaurants, grocery stores, parks, etc. nearby.

I know I probably won’t get everything at this budget, so I’m mainly trying to figure out which
neighborhoods would be the best balance.

Would really appreciate any neighborhood or specific apartment recommendations, as well as any areas/apartments you’d avoid. Thanks!

Most frustrating aspects of dating in Austin?

I made posts earlier this summer about where to meet nerdy guys, and everyone was super helpful then, so I’m back to ask this. I don’t need any more info on where to meet Austin guys, this post is only to ask about the downsides.

What’s super frustrating about dating in Austin? Do people tend to ghost? Are they flaky? Is it just too expensive to go out?

I’m 35F, if that matters.

Best places for 30-somethings to meet people.

35F, moving to Austin later this year. What are some good places to make new friends? I had previously made a post on where to meet nerdy guys/what the dating scene is like, and people were super helpf then, so I figured I’d bring this question here too.

I’m into paddleboarding/kayaking, trivia, puzzles, math, swimming, reading etc.

question about highrise downtown apartments

hi,

i have been looking for decent highrise apartments for weeks, and everything just seems such a pain. I am working with a realtor but I want to get thoughts of people who currently live or have lived at these apartments.

some context: 31M, working in tech, lived in dallas and chicago and moving to austin. i work from home and leave apartment only for gym or on weekends.

what I want ideally: 1000+ sqft, 2 bedroom or 1 bedroom with a den, ideally 15th floor or above, floor to ceiling windows are a huge plus, and a downtown facing unit preferably. i would rarely use apartment gym but a clubhouse/sky lounge is good. ideally either in downtown or rainey st. budget is $4.5-4.6k in total.

i have looked at most of the apartments: windsor on the lake, hanover (the staff is weirdly rude or has the attitude of "we dont want you"), atx tower, quincy, ashton, northshore, whitley, 700 river, 70rainey, and a few more.

what i definitely realized is that not every place is perfect and every place has it's own shortcoming or extraordinarily out of range ($6k+).

what are some reviews or thoughts about these:

- quincy atx

- 700 river

- 70 rainey

- whitley

- windsor on the lake

any small reviews would work as i couldnt find a lot on google/reddit

I'm new to the corporate world and to Austin and I want to start learning about stocks. Anyone willing to teach me?

Hi everyone, a little about me... I 23F just moved to Austin and I've been wanting to get into stocks but I'm a visual and sometimes a bit of a slow learner so I was hoping I'd meet someone or a group of people who would be willing to teach me how to invest in stocks and we can also become friends🤗

Anyone into stocks and investing?

EDIT: Thank you so much for the recommendations and those who reached out.
I do wanna point out something. I already started using Robinhood about a year ago but since I did not understand a single thing. I lost money and safe to say I still don’t understand to this day. So I want to do it right this time. I’m willing to be patient with it and not looking to get rich by next week.

If someone is willing to actually coach me either online or in person, I’ll buy you coffee or tea or wtv ?👀 but you gotta be patient and actually start with the basics.

Recommendations for a med spa in Austin with clear consults and no package pressure

I manage a small team and my lunch breaks are short so I need a place that communicates plainly and respects a schedule. This is for light Botox and maybe a facial later, not a major transformation. Which Austin med spas feel organized rather than sales driven

Apartment recommendations in N.Austin

Hey everyone, so I finally decided to make the move from Houston to Austin and I’ll be working in round rock just above La frontera, I’d figured I would like to live in North Austin to be close to my job, but also hopefully around some social environment. I would love to make friends, so I don’t wanna be super secluded. So far. I’ve been looking at Mongolia on Scofield and Tech Rich. Do you guys have any apartment recommendations?

Surprise Party Suggestions Please!

I’m wanting to throw a little surprise get together for a friend’s 40th birthday. Nothing crazy just have our friends surprise them by meeting at a bar or something. Our friends live South and North so maybe something in between? What would be a fun place/bar? I literally have no idea!

Which neighborhood should I live in?

I’m 23F and I currently live in the Spyglass area. I have no complaints really, right on Greenbelt trail, a mile from Zilker, 10 mins ish from Downtown, S Lamar, and South Congress.

I’m kind of just curious since this is the only place in Austin I’ve lived in. I guess I wished I could walk to more things like coffee shops or stores. there’s a taco deli and really expensive grocery store.

Again, I’m just curious of what other people my age favor in neighborhoods around here!

Please leave lots of details on why you love where you live!

Best hiking trails?

Moving to Austin soon and am curious where the best places to hike are.

Also, I’m 35F, how safe is solo hiking in Austin? I don’t really know anyone there yet, but I don’t want that to stop me from enjoying nature.

Austin IMHO is a way better place than LA and SoCal!

So I'm from Austin technically! I spent most of my tech career there and till I switched remotely and lived (briefly in DFW, then moved back to Austin.) and I always enjoyed and loved it in Austin.

Last year I got married and my wife is a scientist doing her research for a PhD program in LA. So I temporarily moved to LA here to live with her and I don't get the appeal of LA. EVERYTHING costs way more! Prices are so inflated and taxes are higher across the board.

I know people complain about property but doing the math on a nice house in North Austin with two stories that cost 300K or little more is impossible to find anywhere in SoCal? And even accounting for the high property taxes in TX, I think the quality of life is way higher as everything costs much including the taxes you pay for everyday items! For those who disagree please explain it in detail. We live in a shitty apt here in LA and it's $1800 a month before any bills. Built.in 1920. I cannot wait to wrap up and go back to Austin!
