Austin IMHO is a way better place than LA and SoCal!

So I'm from Austin technically! I spent most of my tech career there and till I switched remotely and lived (briefly in DFW, then moved back to Austin.) and I always enjoyed and loved it in Austin.

Last year I got married and my wife is a scientist doing her research for a PhD program in LA. So I temporarily moved to LA here to live with her and I don't get the appeal of LA. EVERYTHING costs way more! Prices are so inflated and taxes are higher across the board.

I know people complain about property but doing the math on a nice house in North Austin with two stories that cost 300K or little more is impossible to find anywhere in SoCal? And even accounting for the high property taxes in TX, I think the quality of life is way higher as everything costs much including the taxes you pay for everyday items! For those who disagree please explain it in detail. We live in a shitty apt here in LA and it's $1800 a month before any bills. Built.in 1920. I cannot wait to wrap up and go back to Austin!

How is the current situation on the ground (realistically speaking)

How is the current situation? Is the UAE safe? I'm coming for a week for my friends wedding but a bit hesitant due to the ongoing mess. Would appreciate some real unexaggerated insight!

Thank you.

LAX > DXB EK216 ( premium economy upgrade question)

Hello!

Flying with wife + MLW and my mother and basically me and my wife are going for our honeymoon.

My overall question is what's the best strategy to try and ask for an upgrade, assuming flight won't be full.

Moroccan passport holders visa on arrival into the UAE?

Hi all,

Traveling to the UAE with my wife + mother in law. My wife has a green card. MLW doesn't. Do they both need visas before arriving into the UAE or can it be issued upon landing?

What's the best way to obtain cheapest fare LAX - DXB

Hi all!

I'm needing to book 4X tickets from LAX or IAH to DXB from the 24th of July till 1st of August. What is the best way to obtain the cheapest rate. Currently it's around $1700 per person. Should I try and find a lower rate or should I find a booking agency and call them.

Thank you all!

Are air shipments getting stuck at customs in LAX?

I ordered a car screen from youducar.com on the 23rd of April. The item supposedly left China on the 25th per the tracking details there hasn't been an update since then. I reached out to them and they said that the shipping company has said that the item is with customs and waiting to be released since the 8th of May and today is the 11th of May.

Is this accurate? Could it have been that the item was lost by this point? I'm located physically in LA.
