This explains the rerun of shows (First Yaya and Maria Clara at Ibarra). But then, it is a cycle - audience does not see good/fresh content in free TV so they will go online and they will never to return to free TV. Ratings will go down so less ads, less budget for shows then GMA will choose to rerun then the cycle repeats. I notice this trend every December. Konti na lang bumabalik na audience after Christmas break.
The network seems passive about this. It seems they do not have a long-term plan. Probably, they will just wait for the death of free TV. I also do not see any strategy being implemented to improve their online presence to counter the declining audience in free TV. Kung meron man, hindi ramdam.
In terms of cost, they need to start cutting the pay of their executives. Hindi na siya justified given current market conditions. Also, stop giving exclusive contracts na except for a select few - Marian, Dingdong, Michael V, Dennis, Jennylyn, Alden, Barbie, Julie (voice of GMA) and News and Public Affairs personalities. This is an employer's market na. Hindi na pwede magdrama ang mga startlet na lilipat ng kabilang bakod kung walang guaranteed contract. Also, hindi na rin siya assurance na if sikat ang bida, magre-rate ang show. Nasa execution pa rin. Example Taskforce Firewall and Bolera ni Kylie dati. Hindi naman A-lister si Kylie but astig pagkagawa ng show so benta sa audience.
