I'm trying to understand my legal options after my 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE and my personal belongings were stolen during an interstate auto transport from Texas to Rhode Island.

I booked the shipment through a broker, and the load was posted on Central Dispatch. The carrier that accepted the load never delivered my vehicle. Instead, they demanded additional payment before delivery, stopped communicating, and my vehicle disappeared along with my personal belongings that were inside.

After investigating, I located the actual owner of the trucking company whose name appeared on the dispatch paperwork. He told me he did not transport my vehicle and that someone had fraudulently created or used a Central Dispatch account in his company's name.

According to him:

• The Central Dispatch account used his company name, insurance, and registration information, but the email address and phone number on the account were not his.
• He believes someone stole his company documents to create the Central Dispatch account and impersonate his business.
• He told me he was willing to provide a written statement and speak with law enforcement because he believes his business identity was also stolen.
• I later learned that Central Dispatch reportedly froze the account for suspicious activity.

I've filed police reports and reported the matter to FMCSA and other agencies, but I'm trying to understand who may actually be legally responsible for my losses.

My questions are:

• Does Central Dispatch have any responsibility if a fraudulent carrier was able to obtain access to their platform using stolen company documents?
• Would my claim primarily be against the broker, the carrier, Central Dispatch, or all of them?
• Can I recover the value of the personal belongings that were stolen with the vehicle?
• Is this the type of case where I should retain an attorney who handles transportation or fraud litigation?

I'm looking for legal guidance on who may owe a duty in a situation like this and whether anyone has handled a similar case.

I'm an HR specialist looking for input from other HR professionals, I-9 specialists, employment attorneys, or General Counsel.

We recently hired a candidate who passed the background check and started work. During the I-9 verification process, we determined that the passport presented did not appear to match the individual.

We met with the employee in person and remained concerned that the passport photo and the employee were clearly not the same person. They continued to maintain it was them.

We immediately placed the employee on administrative leave and requested another acceptable work authorization document which they haven't submitted yet.

They have said they are considering resigning

What would your next steps be?

Would you terminate immediately, or continue investigating?

Would you escalate this to General Counsel?

Have you ever reported a case like this to ICE/HSI or another government agency, or is it typically handled internally?

If the employee admits they used the wrong passport but is otherwise authorized to work, would that change your approach?

Have any of you encountered a similar situation? What was the outcome?

Are there any best practices or USCIS/I-9 guidance that specifically addresses this fact pattern?

I'm interested in hearing how companies actually handle these cases in practice, especially from those who have dealt with them firsthand.

Update: I am not planning to report to ICE. I was just asking for what I legally have to do

The candidate has also now come clean that they had used someone else's passport thinking the role was Us citizen specific BUT they have been authorized the whole time from day 1 of employment and have presented a legit ead with their actual likeness to back it up.

Shipping company stole my car.

I am looking for legal guidance regarding a vehicle transportation dispute that has resulted in the loss of my vehicle and personal property.

In April 2026, I hired a vehicle transport broker to arrange shipment of my 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 from Texas to Rhode Island. The vehicle was picked up by a third-party carrier. After pickup, the carrier stopped communicating, failed to deliver the vehicle, and later demanded additional money. The vehicle was never returned, and I filed police reports and insurance claims.

The vehicle contained most of my personal belongings due to my relocation. My auto insurance paid the value of the vehicle, but I have suffered substantial losses related to the contents of the vehicle, relocation expenses, and other damages. I am also concerned that the broker and/or carrier may have been negligent in vetting or supervising the carrier.

I would like to know:

1. What type of attorney should I hire for this situation?

2. Do I potentially have claims against the carrier, broker, their insurance companies, or any other parties?

3. Is this a matter that would fall under transportation law, consumer protection

- insurance is telling me they only pay the “actual cash value” of the car, NOT necessarily what I still owe on the loan

- I don’t have GAP insurance, so I may still owe thousands to the bank even if they total it as a theft

- they also told me they do NOT cover my personal belongings that were inside the vehicle

Almost everything I owned was in that car because I was relocating.

Then communication basically stopped.

The car never arrived.

I later found out the carrier had been blocked on Central Dispatch, I filed police reports, FMCSA complaints, contacted Mercedes for tracking assistance, and have been trying everything possible to locate the vehicle.

What makes this even worse is:

- the person involved has still been messaging me asking me to send money

- insurance is telling me they only pay the “actual cash value” of the car, NOT necessarily what I still owe on the loan

- I don’t have GAP insurance, so I may still owe thousands to the bank even if they total it as a theft

I feel completely overwhelmed and honestly traumatized. I’ve barely been sleeping because my mind keeps going to worst-case scenarios about where the car is and whether I’ll ever see it again.

Has anyone here gone through anything remotely similar?

- Did you eventually recover your vehicle?

- Did law enforcement actually help?

- Did insurance negotiate value at all?

- Is there any hope once a transport company stops responding?
