Not overweight, but slowly gaining out of my control - microdose worth it in my context?
For context, I am not overweight. I am 25, 5'5.5" and weigh 150lbs (female), just on the cusp between a normal weight and slightly overweight. Great measurements, 28" waist, so on. Nothing is immediately concerning. I've had a big weight loss (190 to 135 after treating hypothyroidism) before and generally know what I'm doing and it's not working for a few reasons.
Since October, I have gained about 15 pounds eating the same stuff I always do (even cutting back). However, the change is not exactly something within my control. I was diagnosed with a rare heart disease called ARVC in January and had surgery for an ICD implant. I used to be on Vyvanse for ADHD management, but due to this condition I had to stop and was instead put on Metoprolol, which often causes weight gain by changing your metabolism/lowering HR. Absolutely cannot get off Metoprolol or take Vyvanse again, this is critical to management of my disease so I do not die.
My heart irritability/ectopy/PVCs are also contributed to by, you guessed it... hunger/fasting. Dehydration. Electrolytes being off. Ah, wonderful for me.
Worse is that because of my ARVC, I literally cannot exercise like everybody else. Like, legitimately. I can do stuff like normal walking, maybe very light lifting, but my HR isn't supposed to go over 140 or so.
I feel trapped watching the number on the scale slowly go up when there's not much I can do about it aside from eating very little, which only makes my heart (and mind) madder. I do have a PCP who I talked to briefly about regarding this issue and she said if I continue to gain weight she'd be willing to prescribe a GLP-1 because of my unique situation, though it'd obviously not be insurance-covered.
I feel like this is a situation where a bit down the line, if it's not my thyroid causing issues or I can't maintain my weight (though I'd prefer to be 140lb)... GLP-1s and microdosing might be warranted. I absolutely do not have diabetes (A1c is like 5.3, cholesterol good) and am not even overweight and my weight distribution is healthy but I'm terrified of what may come over time if I just let things drift. I do not want to be overweight again. The idea terrifies me, I felt terrible when I was overweight.
How exactly do you guys start with this stuff? Where do you begin? At what point is the microdosing officially considered 'warranted' since I'm not actually overweight yet? I can afford a few hundred dollars per month but I really can't afford thousands monthly and I'd like to avoid large dosing if possible so I don't like... I don't know, barf over literally everything like my dad on Ozempic does.
Thank you guys in advance for your help/suggestions!
