Hot Take: X-Men Storylines Kinda don't make sense
Context:
So, I have this X-Men fanfic (well Evolution specifically, but still) and in one of the planned story arcs, one of my main characters is supposed to be going on trial as a material witness for a case against his home precinct for the abuse he suffered before his powers manifested at age eight (for context he was the only white kid in a predominantly Asian New York precinct that had big EO 9066 hatred) and due to his abuse occurring before his powers manifested, any mention of it would be inadmissable and prejudice.
However, testimonies from Hank McCoy on the psychosomatic nature of the kids specific subtype of X-Gene and how it actively proves the abuse since it left evidence on his body very much is admissible. (The specific subtype being called the K-Type gene in-story latches onto the most critical emotional catalyst the person has at the time of manifestation, especially trauma.)
This led me to also think that, testimonies and interviews with Hank could be done during the trial to put the idea of mutants in the conscious of the populace, which is already well acquainted with superpowered individuals, villains and heroes, and essentially try to soften the blow of the reveal in later seasons of the show since people'll be thinking "oh, so along with radioactive spiders, Terrigen mists, alien symbiotes, scientific tech, nuclear reactors, cosmic waves, literal gods and super soldier serums, people can just be born with a gene that gives them superpowers... Honestly? Makes a lot of sense when you put it like that."
Because really, X-Men stories can become very one note very quickly, so literally anything that makes people think "the world is already weird, so why are we making a fuss over this kind of weird" seems like it'd be a breath of fresh air.
Honestly, when taken in context of the wider Marvel universe, the Mutant prejudice makes absolutely zero sense aside from the meta context of it being an allegory, which in itself has actually started to wain in recent years, simply because the Marvel universe is already full of crazy shit, so why are Mutants so crazy that it just can't be accepted? It makes everyone look stupid and makes the world feel less immersive, very hand of the author adjacent.
I dunno. That's always been a hot take of mine, so when I do X-Men related fanfics, I always try to do something different.
Is that weird?
