Sell Me This…Cyclops.

With Cyclops’ inclusion in Marvel Rivals in a few weeks, I thought about the misconceptions that Scott has had both recently and previously. And I’ve thought about how I’ve been curious about Scott and how others might also be interested in learning about him as a character.

So here’s the question: Why Cyclops? What are your selling points on the character? Why do you like him and why do you think others should give him a shot?

Assume that I have very surface/casual reading level knowledge of his character and already have misconceptions about his character.

Let me know your thoughts.

If you were given a chance to reinvent a character, who will it be and why?

[OC] X Support Group

Hi all, TinyBaer here! This is the latest from my muddled X-Universe, with a glimpse of the redheaded menace herself. Hopefully I can get away with the teeniest, tiniest smidge of self-promotion: if you'd like to support me in creating more of these in the future, check out the links in my profile. Have a lovely Sunday! 😊

I think the Krakoa-era should have done more with the underlying sexual themes

From pretty early on, going as far back as HoX & PoX, the Krakoa-era comics seemed to carry a kind undercurrent of certain sexual themes. We have things like how everyone comes out of their eggs to be admired by a whole crowed of people while they're fully naked. We have Nightcrawler declaring that they need to make more mutants at the same time as they start a big rave. And let's not even get into the ménage à trois on the moon.

So there does seem to be a clear undercurrent of sexual liberation tied into Krakoa, in conjunction with them having social liberation on their own nation. A kind of "Free to live, free to love" kind of thing. And the creators do seem to be aware of this. Like how Deadpool will jokingly refer to it as the mutant sex island or the "Krakoa was for lovers" bit.

But despite there seems to be surprisingly few lowers on Krakoa. When it comes to the actual execution the creators kind of choke and chose to not really do anything with these themes. It doesn't feel like it develops into anything actually substantial. The closest we got to exploring this in any depth might have been in Way of X and Legion of X. But even there not much comes out of it. It just kind of vaguely invokes them then forgets about. If anything it feels like these themes are invoked to make Krakoa seem more out there and crazier then X-Men storys that have come before. But then the creators kind of chicken out when it comes to the execution.

I think it could have been really interesting to see something more done with this. It would have been interesting to see X-Men that explored other relationships dynamics or things like naturism that some of the stories were kind of implying. There's already a running joke that the X-Men are a giant swinging club. It would have been interesting to see them actually lean in to this when the X-Men were in a setting where they are supposedly free from the rest of societies traditional prejudices and preconceptions about relationships, hierarchies and other behaviour.

Perhaps this is part of a larger hesitancy in media to discuss sexual topics. The kind of hypocrisy around how it's fine to have violence in media but people are often way more hesitant about sexual themes. Like how we can have Apocalypse beating a member of the X-Men to death in front of a large crowd but even just a mention of more unrestrained sexual activity would be seen as too weird. Despite the early prevalence of sexual themes during the Krakoa era I think the current run on Uncanny might actually have more courage to just be openly horny then many of the Krakoa era books had.

TLDR; Krakoa would have been way cooler if the creators had actually been willing to commit to the bit and allowed the X-Men to all bang each other on the island

I don’t see why those are coming from his eyes.

Now depending on the interpretation Cyclops’ optic blasts are either solar powered or from a punch dimension and could be hot lasers or concussive blasts. Sure. My question for the group is what is that red trail coming from his eyes? Maybe I’ve just noticed it more on more recent pictures but it makes no sense. Is it an ion trail? Thank you for reading.

BEACHCLOPS for your viewing pleasure.

I wanted Scott in a fun, laid-back environment... so I asked KaillReX on X to make me Beachclops based on as certain Belen Ortega cover #iykyk. He looks so mahjestic, as Scott always is.

Do Jean and Scott ever talk about what went wrong?

TLDR: Are there any scenes post Jean’s resurrection where she and Scott talk about their marriage breakdown and he maybe apologises for the affair?

Hi all

Bit of context to my question. I am an older reader (43). I loved the comics as a kid but stopped reading in the late 90s.

A few years ago, I discovered Jay and Miles and have been re connecting big time with the franchise.

I have just finished the Morrison run: wow!

I was always sad to learn from a far that Scott had cheated on Jean. Now that I have read the run I can see that it was more complicated than that: not because a psychic affair doesn’t “count” but because it is pretty clear (to me) that Jean gave up on the marriage as well.

I love Jean so I am skipping straight from Morrison to her return. Currently wading through Krakoa - it’s a lot.

I am really interested to track down any scenes where Jean and Scott talk about what went wrong? Does Scott apologise for the affair (because he really, really doesn’t at the end of Morrison)?

I have read the scene where Scott is dead and Jean has just come back to life and they sort of reconcile.

What exactly made Lycaon an omega?

Like he just seems like a stronger Wolverine/Sabertooth no? What about his powers make him omega ?? It couldn't be regeneration cause he seemingly died pretty easy despite having a supposedly powerful healing factor

Out of all the X-men, who would you say is the best fighter?

Like physically, in terms of hand to hand combat, which member is the X-men is the best in that? Like who can throw the most hands?

How did Fox fumble such a nearly perfect cast?

Even though these movies are nearly ancient now want to open up the discussion again. What did these movies do right/wrong? Do you think they captured the central theme of X-Men?

Is Singer’s departure and Ratner taking the helm of X3 the main culprit for it ending up like it did? What about the studio, writers, and rest of the crew?

I think it would be fun to revisit this era of X-Men cinema as we approach the mutant era of the MCU.

What nationalities haven’t been represented by an X-men (mutant) character?

Hey, r/xmen lurker here, so the X-men are obviously well-known for their representation, especially when it comes to where all the mutants come from, but I’m curious what locations and its people haven’t been represented, mainly because I realized a couple days ago that despite the relatively recent push for Korean representation within Marvel‘s hero gallery, I can’t really think of any Korean mutant characters.

Also, just to get some discussion in, what type of characters would you want to see from any future mutants who end up coming from one of these underrepresented locations?
