How do you actually settle on a plot?
This is maybe a stupid question- or maybe I’m always trying to work backwards. But whenever I start thinking I have an idea to write, I usually can get the setting, the world politics, the theme I want to interject the character arc etc. sometimes I plan the characters to a t. Including who they were, are and who I want them to end up being.
And yet , somehow. Picking an actual plot. The reason they go from point a to b feels damn near impossible. Or it’s always some flimsy half plot I’m piecing together within the world I have and not a very interesting plot on its own
And I know general advice is to read more, and I’d say i read an average amount between 2-4 books a month so I don’t know why I stuggle so much with what is one of the most important aspects of writing
