Indian BCA student applying for German Public Universities (Data Science/CS) – Chances with low Maths ECTS?

Hey everyone,

I’m an Indian student applying for Master’s programs in Germany for Winter 2026 intake and wanted some honest opinions about my profile and chances, especially regarding the Maths ECTS requirement.

My profile:

  • Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) from MIT World Peace University, Pune
  • CGPA: 7.69/10
  • German grade conversion is roughly around 2.2
  • 6-month internship in Data Analytics
  • Relevant certifications in Data Science / Machine Learning
  • 2 Machine Learning projects:
    • Credit Card Fraud Detection using ML
    • Student Performance Prediction
  • Completed German language course till A2 level from Savitribai Phule Pune University
  • Strong coursework in:
    • Machine Learning
    • Data Mining
    • Data Visualization
    • Python
    • Statistics
    • Business Intelligence
    • Machine Vision
    • Advanced Java
  • Main weakness: only around 15 ECTS equivalent in Mathematics (Linear Algebra, Discrete Maths, Probability & Statistics, Operations Research etc.)

I applied through a consultancy to these German public universities:

  • FAU Erlangen–Nürnberg – MSc Data Science
  • Heidelberg University – MSc Data and Computer Science
  • University of Göttingen – MSc Applied Data Science
  • University of Hildesheim – International Master’s Program in Data Analytics
  • University of Hamburg – MSc Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
  • University of Augsburg – MSc Data Science

I know German universities care a lot about formal Maths credits, so I’m honestly worried whether my BCA background and limited Maths ECTS will become a major rejection reason despite having relevant ML/Data Science experience.

Would appreciate honest feedback from:

  • Indian students with similar profiles
  • People admitted with BCA backgrounds
  • Anyone applying to Data Science / CS in Germany

Also, how much do internships, projects, SOP, and German language skills realistically help in compensating for lower Maths credits?
