Who wore it better?

This is a follow up to my previous post. I completed six different paint schemes (left to right) using either wraith bone or slap chop with Gor-Grunta Fur, Blood Angeles Red, and contrast medium. All highlights were done with Skrag brown.

  1. WB prime, 1:1 GGF + BAR
  2. WB prime, 1:1:1 GGF/BAR/CM
  3. WB prime, 1:1 GGF + CM
  4. Slapchop, 1:1 GGF + BAR
  5. Slapchop, 1:1:1 GGF/BAR/CM
  6. Slapchop, 1:1 GGF + CM

General notes:

These are the first Gors Ive painted in 22 years. Totally new to contrast paints. I’ve tried to replicate the 6E style with a middy reddish brown. I found it hard to cover all the WB priming whereas with the slapchopped minis any gaps just became shadows.

These guys were assembled back in 2004 and I skipped removing mold lines then and it shows. Lesson learned - will not forget this for the next models.

Which color scheme feels best?

Help with the classic 6E reddish color scheme

Back in the hobby after 22 years off! I’m wanting to match some of the Gors I painted back then (see based model) with the reddish brown skin scheme. First attempt of Gor-Grunta Fur on WB didn’t seem right so I tested the following:

#1: 1:1 GGF + Blood Angels Red, WB base coat
#2: 1:1:1 GGF + BAR + Contrast Medium, WB base
#3: 1:1 GGF + contrast medium, WB base
#4: 1:1 GGF + BAR, black base with slap chop
#5: 1:1:1 GGF + BAR + CM, black base w/ slap chop
#6: 1:1 GGF + CM, black base w/ slap chop

Reference: 6E with scorched brown (I think?) based on whatever method GW recommended at the time

Any opinions on which recipe to proceed with would be very appreciated!

And yeah, will clean those mold lines up!
