Off-Brand Centigors w/ Spears

The last of the big batch of RGD Gaming beastmen I had assembled. I'm glad to finally have them finished, so I'm free to pursue projects as I like.

In contrast to the Great Weapons from yesterday, building the Centaurs kit using parts from the Fauns sprues works much better. I have an entire other Centaurs kit (plus the Centaur sprues from my spare Fauns kit), and when I get around to building them, I'm going all-in on spears going forward.

Off-Brand "Centigors" with Great Weapons

Back with the next-to-last unit from my big batch of Beastmen from RGD Gaming (RIP), this time from their "Centaurs" kit. (Although you can see the last unit behind them, awaiting varnish and basing).

I gave them the non-horned heads, and larger arms and torsos, that came from the Centaurs sprue. (Sharp-eyed people will note the unit behind them uses the bits from the Fauns sprue). I wanted to experiment with all the options with this batch of builds.

Permit me a short rant to follow:

>!While I'm glad to have a single 5-man squad of Great Weapon users, I don't think I'll make any more with that loadout. The RGD kit builds well when using the Fauns parts, but the Great Weapons are not very good in design. The left arms come with the bottom half of the weapon shaft, the right arm is empty handed, and the weapon heads are a variety of separate piece. But the right hands don't have holes in their fists on the right end, meaning I needed to drill holes through just to stick them in. Nor do the two arms line up easily AT ALL, hence why they look wonky. (This is also apparently how the models were INTENDED to be built, given the official images on the original box art. The creator obviously had ambitions for great weapons that they failed to achieve.)!<

>!In retrospect, drilling into the top of the left fist and sticking the weapon heads in there would probably work much better. Though for now, I'm just going to build the rest of my Centigors with spears going forward.!<

Anyway, this unit continues my basing scheme of giving each unit type and weapon loadout a distinct color combo for flowers. Here it's White for Centaurs, and Red for Great Weapons. I'm tempted to go back and add flowers to my earlier Frostgrave Gnoll models, that serve as my "Bestigors". We'll see.

Another detail: I like the idea of Centaur/Centigor herds practicing ritual scarification as a coming-of-age rite. With the "herd-scar" design itself denoting herd allegiance. So I included close-ups of the sign for this army.

Dragon Ogre Shaggoth

Ajak'orax, Eldest son of Skaranorak, Dragon Ogre Shaggoth. The usurper. The stormdrunk.

Let me introduce you to what had been the bane of my life for the past 6 or so months. This is my second largest Dragon Ogre Shaggoth finally finished (minus some lightning). It is a truly colossal conversion built from the body of Krondys, and also the body of Kragnos. He is an astoundingly large lad, sitting on a 100 x 150mm base comfortably. Whilst Krondys was the base of the model, the dragon torso was extended in all directions with chunks of cork and foil, with putty to fill the gaps.

Following that, I individually sculpted each scale across his body, following the natural contours and shapes informed by the pieces of Krondys that were visible. This resulted in close to 700 individual scales, and probably RSI. Kragnos, was similarly too small. So his torso had the arms and shoulders replaced  with those of a ghorgon, and his neck replaced with sections of Krondys's, to again inject some draconic forms into the upper torso.  The head is a bisected and extended kragnos head, with the horns of Kronys, and manticore ears.  When it came to the reptilian feet, I had nothing to hand that fit his size, so I had to sculpt them largely from scratch, using chaos spawn spines as the claws.

For his weapon, I wanted to pay homage to the early dragon ogre artwork, and give him a big flail. It was built from the giant kit flail(with krondys finger tips) attached to two scrap launcher basins, and two bloodbowl coins. I then festooned it with spikes both sharp and blunt, and a poor skewered victim. Speaking of victims, the final thing I have space to mention is the unfortunate slayer. Built from the forgeworld orc banner victim, milliput, and arco flagellant legs. He looks suitably "shocked" to be held aloft.

As always, let me know what you think.

Dragon Ogre question

Running 3 lone dragon ogre shartaks. Currently they have halberds/heavy armor, but would it work to max out my number of attacks with an extra hand weapon?

Would love some feedback on my 1500-point Beastmen list

Greetings all,

Going into my second game of TOW this weekend and wanted to get some thoughts on the list I've prepared. I'm a relatively experienced 40k player but still grappling a bit with the rules and particularly the list building of TOW in terms of battlefield roles, where to invest my points, etc.

I'm a touch worried about my list being too top-heavy, as a quarter of my points goes into two characters and the Ghorgon is a bit of an investment; let me know if this is too much.

In terms of swap options, I've got 20 Bestigors sitting on the sidelines, as well as two more dragon ogres, another minotaur, 10 Ungors, and a Beastlord.

Any comments or critiques (as well as tips on deployment/battlefield roles) would be greatly appreciated! :)

Gor with shields or additional hand weapons?

A year on from 1.5, what are peoples opinions on gor with shields?

I have 30 with additional hand weapons at the moment and they've been pretty good, but I have another 30 waiting to be built.

WIP gor herd

I started off my beastmen army with a 30-strong unit of gors from the battalion box, and this is the progress so far. I didn't want them all to look the same so I varied the colors for most of "sections" (skin, fur, horns, weapon handles, wraps)

Beasts of Chaos

A few people asked about scale on my Beast Lord. This was before I painted the Gargant. But as you can see hes quite beefy. But nowhere near Minotaur size

Chaos Gargant

Heres my Chaos Gargant I've been working on for a small Beasts of Chaos Display for my cabinet. Just about to start a mega Gargant

First attempt at an odd kitbash

I've always been a fan of the Beastmen faction aesthetic, especially the many kinds of Gors, but TOW's gameplay didn't speak to me, and i am frankly embarrassingly bad at Total War. And while hacking away at my 40k army, you can only add so many fellgor ravagers to a Chaos list, so I improvised.

While CSM arms actually go on pretty well with the Bestigor body, I wanna try and keep the arms more intact.

If anyone here has done or seen something similar to this I'd love to see! Mostly to steal how they did the arms this was rough work.

Battle march escalation league list

Hello! I was convinced to join the Brayherd and I've greatly enjoyed the painting side, but I'm itching for a game with them. I'm planning an escalation league with friends and seek help with my list. It'll be against Bretonia, Chaos warriors and chaos daemons.

Models I have, 20 gors, a Gorebull (sort of), a chieftain, a bray shaman, a cygor and soon some ungors and minotaurs.

Here's the list, any help will be appreciated because while I don't mind losing, my one friend is somewhat of a try hard.
