Exchange a screen door for a metal walk door

I have a solid interior door at an animal shelter. Due to uneven temperature regulation the room is either too cold in winter or too hot in the summer. The HVAC company installed some more ducts and ceiling vents but there is no easy way to add an effective return. My solution is to swap out the solid door for a pet screened door. The existing door is ~1 3/4" thick and the screen door appears to be about 1". Should I sister a 1x4 around the edge of the door to allow use of the existing hinges, frame, and lock hardware or is there a better way? Being a shelter, we need to be on the cheap.

Rotisserie Questions for those that have the US version of BGE brand

The Ceramic Grill Store dropped an email today hawking the rotisserie. https://ceramicgrillstore.com/products/big-green-egg-rotisserie-large-xl Lots of detailed close up pictures and a video which make me think its a little better made than it first appeared, at least to me. $299 is still a big stretch for what it is but I have 3 questions.

Does using it lid closed degrade the gasket since the lid weight is literally supported only by about an inch of uneven metal on either side?

Do you have to remove the whole thing to extinguish the fire since it can't really close and save your leftover lump?

Lid open, are you stuck with whatever heat your charcoal decides to put out or do you just load a little lump and keep replenishing to keep the fire/temp from going out of bounds?

I must say, the non-US version I've seen still looks like a much better product.
